OneDrive
Microsoft today updated OneDrive for Business with a new design as well as three new features. The former consists of refinements to the user interface while the latter consists of Simple Controls, Site Folders, and smarter search. First up, let’s talk about the service’s new design. One of the first things you’ll notice is that the OneDrive for Business Recycle Bin has been moved to the left-hand navigation area of your Web view. Next, the “About Me” page has been revamped to highlight documents and people you have in common with the person viewing your page (as shown above). Furthermore,…

smule
Music app developer Smule today launched Smule Pass, a new cross-app subscription to connect all of its apps under a single premium plan. Previously, Smule users had to purchase individual subscriptions for its apps. With Smule Pass, you’ll now be able to pay once and have access to song libraries, unlimited storage, audio effects and instruments across its four main apps – Magic Piano, Sing! Karaoke, Guitar! and AutoRap. The unified plan should make it easier for Smule to drive cross-app interactions, such as recording a piano track for a song that another user sings in the karaoke app. Smule’s…

Instant API
The API has become a core part of the modern internet, and it seems that more companies than ever now offer third-party developers access to their data and services. While there are plenty of commercial options when it comes to easy management of your APIs, creating those APIs in the first place could be a lot quicker and easier than the months it can currently take. That’s where a new startup called Instant API comes in. The idea behind Instant API is that you can create and publish an API in minutes. Simply hook up your database, determine the endpoints…

Evernote, which launched in 2008, now has more than 100 million registered users, according to a blog post by the company today. Of that 100 million people, the majority (35 million) are in the Asia-Pacific region, 31 million are in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 27 million are in the US and Canada, and 8 million are in Latin America. The company notes as a point of interest that to get to this impressive user base, it hasn’t employed much in the way of promotion. “In fact our total spend on advertising to date comes out to less than one…

In addition to the Kinect-free Xbox One for $399, Microsoft today also announced it is dropping the Xbox Live Gold subscription requirement for entertainment apps on the Xbox One and Xbox 360. The change will go into effect in June. Microsoft’s use of the word “entertainment” refers to gaming apps (like Machinima, Twitch, and Upload), video services (like Netflix, Univision Deportes, GoPro, Red Bull TV, and HBO GO), sports experiences (like NFL, MLB.TV, NBA Game Time, and NHL Game Center), as well as the company’s own apps (Internet Explorer, Skype, OneDrive, and OneGuide). Over 170 apps are affected, including the…
