Quotable

"Obama's first televised address to the nation from the Oval Office proved one thing: He is fundamentally transforming America, into a nation of polluted waters and lands, political name calling, and a clear plan to fail everybody, except the enemies of America. And yes, I do believe he loves America. I just think he's a hyphenated-American. To be specific, when it comes to his politics, I believe he's what is known as an idiotic-American." ~ Yasha Harari

Google today released a new Chrome experiment called Spell Up, a word game designed to help improve your grasp of the English language using only your voice. You can try out what the company calls a “virtual spelling bee, with a twist” at chrome.com/spellup. Since this is a Google project, Spell Up works best in Chrome on your computer as well as in Chrome on Android phones and tablets. Unfortunately, on Chrome for iOS you’ll need to type rather than talk. Google says it worked with game designers and teachers to make Spell Up “both fun and educational.” The goal…

Convo announced today an update to its iOS app that adds new file sharing and annotation features to the business collaboration service. The update represents Convo’s efforts to combine mobile, social and the cloud to help teams work together faster and better. Convo rearchitected its app to handle PDF, Word and Powerpoint previews almost instantaneously. The company claims the app can now load a 6MB Powerpoint file in 2.8 seconds, compared to 80 seconds in the previous version. Once the file is open, you can highlight and annotate specific parts of the document. If you want to share a file while…

Mobile payments company Square wants to turn the humble digital receipt into a fully-fledged customer communication channel with the launch of Square Feedback today. The company said it processes more than 10 million digital receipts each month, and that they should “add value to the customer experience”, rather than just being a list of purchased items. As such, Square Feedback not only allows customers to leave comments, but also allows sellers to respond directly and resolve issues quickly. Customers can choose to receive receipts via email or text, and sellers receive an email alert whenever a customer leaves a comment.  The…

We get pitched a lot of photo apps here at TNW, so it’s always nice when one stands out for offering something different to the rest. That’s the case with KlikToo, an iOS app launched today that lets users capture real-time moments with friends and complete strangers and stitch them into one image. The basic function of KlikToo is to create merged photos of smartphone snaps taken by at least two people. “The app is about bringing together friends and strangers to capture multiple perspectives of a moment in time,” Muh Hon Cheng, one of the founders of BuUuk, the Singapore-based company…

motofeat2

Exactly six months after it launched the Moto G, Motorola has returned with its first post-Google smartphone called the Moto E. Its previous handset challenged the definition of a mid-range device and now, Motorola is hoping to do the same at the low-end of the market. The Moto E represents a crossroads for the mobile phone industry. Feature phones are now ludicrously cheap, but their days are numbered as low-end smartphones drop in price. The Moto E is an attempt by Motorola to close what’s left of the gap – its new ‘Goodbye Dumphone‘ site makes its stance pretty clear….
