Google today announced Google Fit, an open platform designed to help people keep track of their fitness goals. It’s a single set of APIs that will allow developers to dig into rival apps and combine data for deeper and smarter insights. Google Fit should result in more comprehensive apps that give users a rounded picture of their health and fitness levels. “So if a user grants permission, apps can have access to a user’s entire fitness stream to give better recommendations through this additional context,” one Google employee said. Google today announced that it will bring native Office editing to its Google Docs cloud service. The company also unveiled a new Android for Work program that will help enterprises deploy devices. Android for Work will arrive as part of the upcoming Android L release with new APIs that allow users to keep their personal data and apps from their work ones. Google previews Android apps running on Chromebooks

Google has confirmed that Chromebook devices will one day be able to run standard Android apps, during its I/O keynote today. During the presentation, the company showed off Vine and Flipboard apps running on a Chromebook, which, of course, uses Google’s own Chrome OS.
