Microsoft today updated its Facebook app for Windows Phone, bringing a bunch of new features out of beta, including a new design. You can download the latest version now directly from the Windows Phone Store. First off, you can see the updated design below. In addition to the overhauled user experience, Microsoft is promising “improved app performance,” but won’t elaborate exactly how much faster Windows Phone users can expect it to be. Additionally, the app now supports more languages, gains the ability to upload videos taken with your Windows Phone device, and integrates with Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone. Windows…

In Q2 2014, the worldwide PC market experienced 14 percent growth year-over-year to 123.9 million units, if you take into consideration desktops, laptops, and tablets. Laptops saw a slight resurgence in Q2 2014, with shipments all but flat on the same quarter a year ago. In fact, laptop shipments surpassed those of tablets once again (the last time this was the case was less than a year ago in Q3 2013). The latest estimates come from Canalys, an independent analyst firm which noted the market saw “effectively no sequential growth.” As such, the company concluded that the positive effect tablets…

Square confirms acquisition of food delivery service Caviar

Payments processor Square announced today that it has bought Caviar, a US-based service which allows its users to order food for delivery from restaurants that would not otherwise offer delivery. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but rumors from Recode yesterday suggested an announcement was imminent and that the deal would be valued at around $90 million. Clearly not content to stay purely a payments processor, Square has now expanded its remit to food delivery. Caviar said in its own announcement that its service will remain unchanged following the acquisition. ➤ Square acquires Caviar [Square blog] Featured Image Credit – Shutterstock

Brian Solis is a Principal Analyst at Altimeter Group, a research-based advisory firm that helps companies thrive with disruptive technologies. Digital transformation is about to change the way business is done. That’s not a startup pitch from HBO’s new comedy series “Silicon Valley.” Digital transformation is the latest trend in business where companies invest in new technologies to align with the evolution of customer expectations and behavior.   Even though digital transformation implies a technology first approach, it is in fact a much more human process. Everything begins with understanding where and how traditional strategies and models stray from the…

Google today introduced the Google News Publisher Center, a new tool that lets news publishers keep Google News current on the changes they have made to the structure of their site. In other words, media companies can now directly edit the Google News record of their news site. More specifically, the Publisher Center lets you make the following changes: Update your news site details, including changing your site name and labeling your publication with any relevant source labels (like Blog, Satire, or Opinion). Update your section URLs when you change your site structure (e.g., when you add a new section…
