French telecommunications company Iliad has confirmed (PDF) submission of a buyout offer to T-Mobile USA. The proposal includes $15 billion in cash ($33 per share) for a 56.6 percent stake in the company, and then $40.5 per share for the remaining 43.4 percent, based on $10 billion in potential cost savings. Iliad’s offer values T-Mobile shares at $36.20 on average. The company would use a mix of debt and equity to finance the deal. T-Mobile’s board of directors now has an opportunity to respond. Meanwhile, Sprint and its parent company SoftBank have reportedly been preparing their own $32 billion bid for T-Mobile. Iliad…

Wikipedia goes fully native on iOS and now lets you edit articles too

Wikipedia - Mobile

As one of the biggest brands on the Web, Wikipedia needs little introduction. The world’s biggest online encyclopedia is available across a multitude of platforms, including desktop and mobile. However, on mobile, it has hitherto largely relied on HTML5 wrappers on iOS and Android – in other words, not exactly coded ‘natively’ for each platform. Things are changing though. Hot on the heels of the overhauled Android incarnation that arrived on Google Play a little more than a month ago, which brought native coding and in-app editing, Wikipedia for iOS has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. And ‘native’…

Typo 2 iPhone 5s keyboard case up for pre-order at $99, now a little less like a BlackBerry

Typo5s_Shot3_slim_1024x1024

The company behind the Typo keyboard case, which added a BlackBerry-style keyboard to your iPhone 5 or 5s, has announced the second version of the case, and this time it’s a tiny bit less like a BlackBerry. While the original could perhaps make you a more productive note-taker or quicker at responding to messages, provided you didn’t mind what it did to the look of your carefully designed iPhone 5s, the company was taken to court for infringing on BlackBerry’s keyboard design. The result, as it stood in March this year, was a preliminary injunction putting a stop to sales. With…

Whatsapp rival Chaatz now lets you talk to strangers without having to give your real phone number

smartphoneaddiction

We wrote about Chaatz earlier this year when it launched as a messaging app targeted at emerging markets, but now it seems to be going in a slightly different direction with a new feature that taps on its unique offering of a ‘Chaatz number.’ The ‘Chaatz number’ feature was a central part of the app’s original offering. It is a number that the chat app assigns to you so you can keep your real phone number entirely secret, which means that you don’t have to reveal your real number to people including marketing and sales personnel, work acquaintances or those whom you…

Wunderlist is completely rebuilt in a bid to become ‘the home of the world’s lists’

Wunderlist

On the surface, today’s update to popular to-do list app Wunderlist is pretty straightforward, but it’s what the update points towards for developer 6Wunderkinder that’s most interesting here. Wunderlist 3.0 boasts a nice new look, improved speed and a headline new feature: public lists. Any list you’ve created can be shared with the world by clicking a ‘Publish’ button. You may wonder why you’d want to share your to-do lists with strangers, but 6Wunderkinder has bigger plans for what Wunderlist can be, and this is only the beginning. The idea, says 6Wunderkinder’s Chief Design Officer Benedikt Lehnert, is for Wunderlist to…
