Denver-Hot-Chips-TK1

Nvidia made a splash at this year’s CES with the unveiling of its Tegra K1 ARM chip, which included a 64-bit version slated for release later this year. At the Hot Chips conference today, Nvidia released more details about the upcoming chip, which is codenamed Project Denver. Project Denver is Nvidia’s first custom-designed CPU, and it’s being touted as the first 64-bit ARM processor for Android. The system will pair two Denver CPUs with speeds up to 2.5 GHz with its existing 192-core Kepler architecture. According to Nvidia, the dual-core design provides “significantly higher performance” than rival four- and eight-core…

BELGIUM-WWI-EURO-COMMEMORATION

Holvi is taking its online banking service for “makers and doers” beyond its home market of Finland and into 19 new European markets. For now, the company is using an invite-only system to slowly grow its offering in seven additional countries: Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Lithuania, Germany and the UK. Holvi says the users it has selected so far number in the thousands and provide enough feedback to assess the quality of its localizations. James Clear writes about using behavioral science to master your habits and improve your health. His free guide, Transform Your Habits, has been downloaded more than 80,000 times. This post originally appeared on his blog. Positive thinking sounds useful on the surface (most of us would prefer to be positive rather than negative.) US-POLITICS-INAUGURATION-WHITE HOUSE

Learning from its mistakes with the Healthcare.gov debacle, the Obama administration has launched the US Digital Service, a team of technologists that will advise government agencies on their IT projects, as noted by The Washington Post. The USDS, as it’s called, isn’t primarily focused on providing direct engineering support. That’s left for the General Services Administration’s 18F unit. Instead, Dickerson and his team will provide multi-disciplinary consulting work to help agencies think through how to get their user experiences on…

Dropbox today updated its Android app with support for document previews and an overhauled search function. You can download the new version now directly from Google Play. Document previews means you can now view, scroll, and zoom in or out of any Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or PDF in your Dropbox directly on your Android device without having to switch out of the Dropbox app. The search improvements include quite a bit: you can now search in specific folders or in your entire Dropbox, the app keeps track of your recent searches, it makes “typeahead” suggestions as you type in…
