Samsung is investing heavily in the Internet of Things with the purchase of SmartThings. The acquisition kickstarts any IoT hardware plans the South Korean company may currently have. SmartThings will continue to act as an independent company working under Samsung’s Open Innovation Center Group in Palo Alto. SmartThings CEO Alex Hawkinson will continue to run the company and in a post stated, “We believe that there is an enormous opportunity to leverage Samsung’s global scale to help us realize our long-term vision.” The IoT company currently sells motion sensors, a plug in power control unit, a hub and other pieces of hardware to control…

Sprint’s new CEO announces ‘very disruptive’ mobile plans coming next week

Well it looks like the new CEO of Sprint, Marcelo Claure isn’t wasting any time. In a company-wide address, the new carrier boss announced new priorities for the company including reduced prices. The telecom industry site, Light Reading reports  that in a town hall call today, Claure said that the company would be announcing “very disruptive” pricing next week as part of its three new business priorities. These are: reduce prices, improve the network and decrease operational costs. Claure wants customers to think twice before signing up with a Sprint competitor. That might be good news for anyone shopping for a new carrier….

Google brings Chrome OS’ user management system to latest Chrome builds

Google Chrome has supported multiple user accounts for years now, but the options to add and manage them have been buried in the browser’s settings. In fact, if you actually navigate to the proper section (Hit the menu button, choose Settings, and scroll down to “Users”) and add a few users, you can’t actually switch between them from there. Google is toying with a complete revamp of the user account system in its browser, clearly borrowing a lot from Chrome OS. In Chrome Canary (Update: and the Chrome dev channel), the following menu has shown up in the window’s title…
