We whittled down the 99 startups selected for the Boost event at TNW Europe 2014 down to 10 earlier this month, and today each of the companies took to the stage to pitch our judging committee. Pocket Anatomy, an Ireland-based startup that developed an app that allows patients to understand more about healthcare, won the competition. Appsfire continues its quest to ‘kill the banner ad’ on mobile with new pull-to-refresh ad unit

Appsfire is continuing its battle to “kill the banner ad” on mobile devices after it launched its announced its newest advertising unit: one which places promotional messages inside the pull-to-refresh mechanism within iOS apps. To recap, the company is on a mission to reinvent advertising on mobile, and it has already announced two new ad formats: Ura Maki, an innovative in-app scheme for iOS, and Sashimi, which delivers in-feed ads. Its pull-to-refresh unit is called ‘Brichter-San’, in keeping with its Japanese naming convention and also paying tribute to Tweetie founder Loren Brichter, who pioneered the concept of pulling to refresh. Etsy launches a new iPhone app to help sellers do more on the go

The wonderful world of artisinal wares available on Etsy just got a bit more mobile for sellers. Today Etsy released Sell on Etsy, an iOS app for managing a seller’s account. Here’s you can do with your store that sells obsidian jewelry or sock monkeys. Manage their shop activity feed with purchases, feedback and favorites. Manage open orders and review completed ones. Create, edit and publish listings directly from their phone. Communicate with buyers. Access their shop stats such as views, favorites, orders and revenue history. Mellow’s $400 sous-vide kitchen gadget raises $64,000 in pre-orders in just three days

Mellow’s smartphone controlled kitchen gadget that’s looking to bring sous-vide cooking to homes around the world, has received 160 orders in the three days since its crowd funding project launched. Those 160 purchases equate to $64,000 in pre-order sales, and the project has seen more than 16,000 visitors from around the world, Mellow said. Mozilla offers special $10,000 security bug bounty for certificate verification in upcoming Firefox 31 release

Mozilla today announced a new certificate verification library in Gecko, the web browser engine used in many of the company’s applications. At the same time, the company is also offering a special $10,000 security bug bounty specifically for certificate verification in Firefox 31, which is currently a Nightly release but is scheduled to launch on July 31.
