Samsung plans ‘a new conversation around health,’ starting with a press event on May 28

Samsung launched its first Galaxy Gear smartwatch amid much speculation about Apple’s iWatch last year, and it seems to be a case of déjà vu in 2014 after the Korean company sent out media invites for an event “around health,” as speculation about Apple’s move into bio-metrics reaches new levels of noise. The company is holding an event in San Francisco on May 28 — which, you’ll note is just a week before Apple’s annual WWDC developer conference. Samsung isn’t saying much about the event, an email that consisted solely of the graphic below dropped into our inbox, courtesy of the company. Either…

android
Cooliris, the service that puts photos from multiple social networks in a single place, has finally come to Android devices today, nearly two years after launching for iOS in July 2012. For those not aware of it, Cooliris links up to media from more than 15 services, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Dropbox, Flickr and others. The idea is to provide a unified gallery experience to share content with friends and browse photos — the service has over 40 million registered users across Web and mobile in the US, which is its largest market. Initially ‘Liveshare’, a Web only service, the company made…

Vine for the Web revamped around content discovery; videos are now viewable to non-users

Twitter launched a basic Web version of its 6-second video app Vine back in January, and now it is filling in the gaps after (finally) adding more features to the site. In addition to the home feed and profile view that featured on the initial version of Vine, users will now find a search bar and a set of discovery features from the mobile apps: including curated content — playlists and featured videos and features users — channels, trending tags and popular now. Interestingly, the site is now accessible for visitors that are not logged in to the service, which will open it up to…

Beats Electronics today updated its iOS app with iPad support. You can download the new version now directly from Apple’s App Store. While the iOS app always worked on the iPad, users had to find and use the small-screen iPhone version on the bigger screen. Today’s release is the first version of Beats Music optimized for the larger tablet screen. All the features from the iPhone version are included, plus the ability to find artists, albums tracks, and playlists bookmarked for later. Listeners can also change their profile, make a playlist and share it with the world, as well as…

Twitter’s latest experiment lets you mute followers who you’d prefer were kept quiet

The ability to mute an account on Twitter has been standard in apps like Tweetdeck and Tweetbot for a while. Now it looks like the ability to hide tweets from an account without actually unfollowing said account is coming to the official Twitter app. Or at least it’s being tested. Twitter is once again experimenting with features via its official app. The mute function hides an account’s tweets from your feed, but still lets direct messages and notifications through. Unlike Tweetbot’s mute feature that can be limited to a day, week, month, or forever, the official Twitter app feature is forever by default. Twitter has a…
