BlackBerry 10 continues to struggle as a modern smartphone OS, but today the platform’s official Twitter app received a hearty update. The app finally supports draft tweets, so you can easily save a 140-character masterpiece if you suddenly lose your internet connection. In addition, it’s now possible to swipe between the Activity and Discover sections of the app, rather than punching the dedicated tabs at the bottom of the screen. Photos have also been overhauled for version 10.3, with support for images in Direct Messages and the option to toggle them off in your timeline. When uploading a picture, there’s…

Microsoft today announced it is releasing an emergency patch for Internet Explorer to fix a zero-day flaw spotted in the wild. The security hole was found in IE6 through IE11, and the company says its update “is fully tested and ready for release for all affected versions of the browser.” While this normally means all supported versions, this time is different. Microsoft is issuing a security update for Windows XP users as well, despite the fact that Windows XP is no longer supported by the company. Here is Microsoft’s reasoning for the decision: Even though Windows XP is no longer…

Microsoft today announced updates to both OneNote for iPhone and OneNote for Mac with a slew of new features. You can download the former directly from Apple’s App Store and the latter from the Mac App Store. First up, the iPhone version has received there major enhancements: notebook creation (plus adding, deleting, and renaming sections), Office Lens integration, and an iOS 7 redesign. The first is very straight forward: it means the app is no longer dependent on the user having a desktop app, since you can now create content and share it with others directly from your iPhone. greenbutton
Microsoft is stepping up its cloud computing game after acquiring GreenButton, a New Zealand-based startup that uses its Azure platform and has an existing relationship with the Redmond company. The deal was first revealed on a New Zealand government website, which shows that Microsoft is now the company sole shareholder, and Microsoft has since confirmed the deal to TNW and it has been officially announced on its blog. The value of the deal has not been made public. GreenButton provides ‘on-demand’ cloud solutions, based around a high-intensity cloud burst technology — for example, customers can use its products to run high performance computer, or big data analytics in…
