Hardware
With Glass becoming available to a wider audience and a general buzz around anything wearable in tech, the number of apps set to become available for the specs can only continue to increase.  But the promise of one that lets you navigate Glass’s UI and carry out actions simply by thinking about it has got to be one of the most exciting possibilities on the horizon. There is, however, one problem. The first version of MindRDR‘s app from design studio This Place will live up to that promise – you can take a photo using Glass and share it on Facebook or Twitter just by thinking about…

The World Cup 2014 final is approaching, and that means one thing: time to deck yourself in the colors of the team you want to win. If you’re looking for another way to show your support, you can tweet to vote on which flag colors are shone on the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. To cast your vote, you’ll need to include #ArmsWideOpen and the hashtag of one of the finalists [spoiler alert: Argentina and Germany] in your tweet. Voting started today, July 9, and runs through July 12. The Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro will light…

You may already know Madefire’s Motion Book, the free iPad app that lets you view all those fast-action, interactive digital comic books with 360-degree panoramic views, music, sound effects and your choice of motion transport. Today, Madefire has let loose its cloud-based Motion Book Tool, the authoring program behind those works, so that all artists and creators can build and share their own original works. It is available to anyone with a Web browser and an Internet connection, and is free of charge. But that’s not all. Artists who publish through the Madefire Motion Book Tool can also upload and share their work directly…

work place diversity
Evan Charles is the co-founder of Launch Academy. Our technology and innovation economy isn’t doing a great job of recruiting, hiring or promoting women. And by ‘not doing a great a job,’ I mean it’s failing. By most estimates, fewer than 30 percent of all tech and computer jobs are held by women as of 2014. The further up the management and leadership ladder you look, the more it resembles an old boys’ club. That’s an especially troubling reality for an industry, which believes that decisions such as hiring should be analytically driven, and merit-based. The business world is chock full of…

Jane-iOS-checkout
Payment platform Braintree today announced a reboot of its SDK with support for paying with PayPal and new UI support. eBay acquired Braintree last September, but it took until today for the payment firm to introduce full PayPal support in its SDK. Early partners that have begun taking PayPal are seeing it account for as much as 11 percent of their transactions in little over a week’s time. With the latest release, Braintree has also added front-end support to make adding payments even faster for its clients. Previously, developers had to build their own UIs to connect to the Braintree SDK, but…
