Microsoft revealed today that it has sued Samsung (PDF) in an attempt to enforce a patent cross-licensing agreement the two companies reached in 2011. By Microsoft’s account, Samsung is balking at licensing fees after its smartphones became more successful than expected. The lawsuit alleges Samsung was late in paying its second-year royalties and then refused to pay interest. Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia appears to be the reason that Samsung cited for not having to pay. With the lawsuit, Microsoft hopes that the court will enforce the contract. We’ve reached out to Samsung for comment on the issue. Microsoft spent years leveraging its…

HTC is expected to announce a Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8 on August 19 in New York. Unfortunately, it looks like Verizon might have spoiled any chance of that being a surprise to anyone. Pocket-lint found an image link of an HTC One M8 on Verizon’s site. The image shows the smartphone touting Windows Phone Live Tiles. So in addition to HTC announcing the phone, expect an announcement that Verizon will carry it. The Android version of the phone boasts a five inch 441 PPI (1090×1020 pixel) display, a Snapdragon 801 quad-core chip, HTC’s dual sensor Duo Camera, the HTC…

Despite what appears to be evidence to the contrary, many social networkers — especially those with a photo focus — are deeply concerned about privacy. That’s why so many imaging apps now emphasize selective sharing options as an alternative to splashing your enviable personal life all over Facebook. Lenshare, a free iPhone photo sharing app from Moments Tech, has just launched a version 2 overhaul that integrates photos, sound and text into a simple storytelling layout. These ingredients, by themselves, are not new. 23Snaps, for example, has long touted its privacy features. EyeFi Mobi‘s new private cloud sharing service also emphasizes selective sharing with…

Google today updated its Google Now Launcher app to include support for all devices running Android 4.1 and later. After showing off the launcher on the Nexus 5, Google released a standalone app back in February, but at the time it was only available for Nexus and Google Play edition devices. With the app, you’ll get Google Now right on your home screen. You can use the “Ok Google” hotword to activate voice search. ➤ Google Now Launcher
