Redmi-1

Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is hogging the limelight after several analyst reports have pointed to its rapid growth — among them Kantar and Strategy Analytics. Now another research firm, Canalys, has offered up even more evidence of Xiaomi’s popularity — in the second quarter of 2014, it found that Xiaomi recorded a 14 percent market share in China on the back of 240 percent year-on-year growth, overtaking Samsung in terms of volume of smartphones. This was the first time Samsung slid to second place in China since Q4 2011 and came after a 15 percent year-on-year decline. Shanghai-based Canalys…

You may have plenty of time to think about how to handle your Aperture library once Apple transitions to its new Photos app next year. But Adobe isn’t about to leave money on the table. Today, the company emailed folks in the photo community with a message bearing information on how to get started migrating your photo library away from Apple’s ecosystem into Adobe’s own. While Adobe…

Ritot

Last week, we cast doubt on the Ritot projection watch Indiegogo campaign, which we had previously written about, after learning more about the technical hurdles and shifting identities behind the project. In spite of growing concerns from backers, the campaign has continued to raise money, surpassing $750,000 without a working prototype in sight. Music-streaming service Rhapsody is gobbling up music-related startups today. First music discovery service Exfm announced it was being acquired and then SoundTracking dropped the news its parent team, Schematic Lab was joining Rhapsody. With today’s acquisitions, the 14-year-old streaming music service gets two features that could help the international company grow beyond its 2 million subscribers. Apple’s Beats Music launched touting its human and computer curated discovery system, but that information is tracked inside Beats Music….
