SlideShare, a platform owned by LinkedIn for sharing presentations, documents, infographics and other files, is now completely free to use. As TechCrunch notes, the optional Pro tiers that existed before have been stripped out and premium features, including analytics, profile customization and private uploads, are being opened up to all users. New and existing “free” users won’t receive all these goodies straight away, however. SlideShare will be rolling out one new feature every month, starting in September. They haven’t announced the order, or when the roll-out will be completed, but presumably it’s been done to keep newcomers engaged. A spokesperson…

Skype today announced a new feature called active endpoint that ensures you only receive chat notifications on the device that you are currently using. The Microsoft-owned company says the new functionality is rolling out “over the next few weeks,” and all you have to do is make sure that your devices have the latest versions of Skype. In other words, if you’ve ever used the communication app on multiple devices and been frustrated by getting multiple sounds and vibrations for every single message, you’ll be happy to learn that will soon be an annoyance of the past. Skype understands your…

Cloud backup service Backblaze has released an Android app for viewing and downloading your stored desktop files. The app is available on Google Play today and will come to Amazon’s Appstore soon. Once you log in to the app, it shows you the available backups for your computers. From there, you simply navigate to the file you want and tap to download. Most common file formats can be opened within the app, or you can send the file to another app to handle.       Keep in mind that the app is read-only, so you won’t be able to back…

Following a recent tease, Samsung and Nook have finally teamed up to announce the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook. It’s aimed at those who want the best of both worlds: a full Android tablet that can also double up as a solid e-reader. There’s no doubt, then, that both companies are targeting Amazon’s range of Kindle Fire tablets, which also function as a tablet and an e-reader. Designed and put together mainly by Samsung – based on the Galaxy Tab 4 design – books and other materials can be downloaded from the Nook store. In terms of specs, there’s a 7-…

This post was originally published on the Shutterstock blog and has been reprinted with permission. Mobile technology is transforming consumer behavior. Last year, mobile devices were on track to outpace the number of people in the world, and it’s estimated that by 2017, there will be 1.4 mobile devices per person.
