Facebook changes the only unique Slingshot feature: You can now send unlocked photos and videos

Facebook today updated its Slingshot app for Android and iOS, changing the only feature that makes the app unique. When you receive a photo or video, you may not be required to send something back to see the content. Senders can now choose whether they want you to send them a shot in return to unlock their photo or video. In addition to the usual bug fixes, the changelog states “Sling a shot to see a shot? Not necessarily! After shooting a photo or video, now you can choose whether to sling it as a locked or unlocked shot.” Following…

Apple announces livestream of September 9 event

Apple is really going all out for the September 9 event. The company just announced that there will be a livestream of the event. Apple is expected to announce new iPhones and a smartwatch available in two sizes. But don’t expect to fire up Chrome or Firefox to watch the video feed. Twitpic to shut down on September 25 after Twitter pressured it to abandon trademark application

Photo service Twitpic has announced that it will close on September 25th after Twitter threatened to cut off its API access if it didn’t drop its trademark filing. Google to refund parents at least $19 million for children’s unauthorized in-app purchases

If you’ve ever found an unexpected charge on your credit card after letting your kid borrow your Android device, you may be in for a refund. Today the Federal Trade Commission announced that Google has a agreed to refund a minimum of $19 million to consumers who were charged for purchases made by their children without authorization. Google has also agreed to change its Play Store billing practices so as to better obtain express consent for in-app purchases. The Commission alleges that many consumers reported hundreds of dollars of unauthorized charges due to current billing practices. Many free apps contain in-app purchases…
