Microsoft has announced it’s making it easier for business customers to share files via Outlook on the Web using OneDrive. Now, rather than waiting for files to upload from a local drive, you can insert a link to a file that’s already on your OneDrive for Business account – directly from the email message. This will be particularly useful for large files, as the documents remain in the cloud at all times, and saves you navigating away from the message to find the right link to paste in. Chromecast now lets you set a custom ‘backdrop’ with Google+ photos, artwork, news and more

When not being used to stream content, Google’s Chromecast usually occupies your TV’s screen with a slideshow of pre-selected wallpapers. Naturally, users wanted to be able to choose their own images to display, and as of today, you’re finally able to. Google gives you a few options, including photo albums from Google+, artwork from galleries and museums, content from various news publications and satellite imagery. You don’t seem to be able upload your own photos without going through Google+, though. There’s a bit of chatter today about an apparent Slack vulnerability that allows people to snoop around other companies to find out what group they have on the service. However, it’s not technically a vulnerability, as Slack has been aware of the issue since at least August and has even called it a feature. Apple is holding an event on October 16: ‘It’s been way too long’

Apple has sent out invites for a press event taking place on October 16. As The Loop reports, the teaser comes with the following strapline: “It’s been way too long.” Make of that what you will. It will take place at 10am PT/1pm ET at the Town Hall auditorium on Apple’s Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino, according to 9to5Mac. So what can you expect at this particular Apple extravaganza? Probably a release date or the formal introduction of OS X Yosemite, in addition to new iPads and Macs. Nothing has been confirmed though, so we’ll just have to wait another…
