Lollipop Forest

After months of speculation on what dessert would take on the “L” name for Android 5.0, Google has announced it will be called Lollipop. The latest version of Android has over 5,000 APIs and a new aesthetic style called Material Design that is supposed to create a consistent feel across multiple devices including gadgets running Android Wear and vehicles equipped with Android Auto. The app also brings new security and notification features. The mobile operating system was previewed at Google I/O in June. Google says that Lollipop is, “made for a world where moving throughout the day means interacting with a bunch…

Nexus_6

Google has launched the Nexus 6, its newest smartphone and successor to the Nexus 5, which will be available to pre-order on October 29 and in-store from November. Key specs of the Motorola-made device include a 2.7-GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor, the most recent Android Lollipop OS, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and of course, that 6-inch Quad HD display. Internal storage is set at 32GB or 64GB. And the cost? $649 from the Google Play Store, according to Motorola’s blog. Also on the front, there are dual front-facing speakers and “turbo charger” feature which Motorola claims will add 6 hours of battery life in 15 minutes. Alongside…

Netflix just tried to rain on HBO’s parade. The company has announced that all 10 seasons of Friends will be available to stream on its platform from January 1, 2015 in the US and Canada. The show is over a decade old now, but the escapades of Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross are still loved the world over. Countless reruns and releases, both physically and digitally, have extended its appeal to new generations and cemented its status as one of the most iconic TV shows. HBO, if you missed the news, announced today that it would be launching…

HBO fans, rejoice. The company has confirmed it’ll be launching a standalone streaming service in the United States next year. The decision was confirmed by HBO chief executive and chairman Richard Plepler at a Time Warner investor meeting. He highlighted the growing number of homeowners that pay for broadband, but not a traditional cable TV package: “That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped. It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO.” HBO is yet to reveal the precise details of how such a service will operate. The pricing model…

Black car service Gett has raised the wages it pays drivers and issued a direct challenge to Uber by claiming to pay as much as twice the per-minute rate as its competitor. That won’t necessarily add up to twice the annual income for drivers, but it could help Gett recruit drivers away from Uber. Drivers will receive $0.70 per minute after tax and receive 100 percent of tips. Gett claims that drivers on its platform can make $100,000 a year working 40 hours a week. SUV drivers will earn $0.85 per minute. Gett is currently running a flat $10 ride promotion in…
