Online learning company Coursera has announced 18 new specializations, covering key areas such as entrepreneurship, software and healthcare. Coursera is a so-called ‘ed-tech’ company that works with universities to offer massive open online courses (MOOCs). It first announced specializations back in January, serving as a new kind of certificate program that lets students follow university-led tracks to become proficient in a given subject. The initiative kicked off with 10 topics, including ‘Programming Mobile Cloud Computing Applications with Android’. Coursera says that more than 1.5 million learners have participated in specializations since launch. The full list of specializations, and certifying educational body, are…

Opera Software has introduced a new, visual bookmarking system for its internet browser on Windows and Mac. When you hit the heart icon to the right of the address bar, Opera will now show a pop-up bookmarking window. Here, you can choose an image embedded in the current webpage and select the folder the link should be stored in. To see the new bookmarking panel, you just need to open a new tab and click on the ‘Bookmarks’ option from the top of the screen. It’s an attractive design, with a hierarchy of bookmark folders on the left and a…

A Daily Overdose of Arrays

snb, who wrote the detailed piece on dictionaries, has applied the same rigor to arrays.

I knew there would be something in there that I didn’t know (there was plenty). Under the section about identifying the existence of an item in an array, you can use a defined name:

6.2.2.3 The Excel-object ‘Names’

Assign the array to a Name’.
Excel creates an arrayformula, consisting of a string.
The item can be searched for in that string.
Embed the search string in quotation marks.
Embed numerical values in commas.

Names.Add "snb_002", a_sn
msgbox InStr(Names("snb_002").Value, """abcde""")>0
msgbox InStr(Names("snb_002").Value, ",1245,")>0

While 5GB is available to everyone for free, the tiered pricing structure charges from $10 per 20GB up to $500 per year for a terabyte of storage. Amazon Instant Video, the service…
