Reuters moves conversation to social media as it kills comments on its news stories

Reuters is dropping comments from its news stories, the publication announced today. Explaining its reasoning, the company says: Much of the well-informed and articulate discussion around news, as well as criticism or praise for stories, has moved to social media and online forums. Those communities offer vibrant conversation and, importantly, are self-policed by participants to keep on the fringes those who would abuse the privilege of commenting. Facebook now gives you more control over your News Feed

Facebook has announced it’s giving users more control over what they see in their News Feed, as well as letting them give feedback about what they’re seeing. In your News Feed settings, you’ll now see a list of the most prominent Pages, Groups and people who have appeared in your feed over the past seven days. You can filter the view by people, Groups or Pages, or see them all at once. Twitter could get topic-based timelines, says Dick Costolo

Twitter is considering the idea of allowing users to tune in to specific topics rather than simply following other users, according to CEO Dick Costolo. The idea was put to the Twitter boss in an email by Yousaf Sekander, a director at UK-based internet marketing firm RocketMill.
