Facebook adds call to action buttons to Pages

Following a slew of new tools for publishers yesterday, Facebook has announced seven “call to action” buttons for Pages. Page admins can now select one of seven buttons, which use verbs to attempt to get user conversion and appear on top of the cover photo. The options are: Book Now Contact Us Use App Play Game Shop Now Sign Up Watch Video Dollar Shave Club, which has been trialing the buttons says that adding a “Sign Up” button converted 2.5x more users than previously. Vine updates app, adding Instagram-style double tap to like

Vine’s latest update brings a big new feature that the app’s users have been asking for quite a lot; double-tap to like. Users scrolling through their feeds can now simply double-tap a Vine to like it directly, saving tapping on those pesky buttons. Once you’ve liked a Vine, a smiley face appears where you double tapped. It’s likely users were upset they couldn’t double-tap Vine videos like they could on Instagram. It appears there is nothing else in the latest update. ➤ Vine [iOS / Android]

Microsoft sends out invites for Windows 10 event at headquarters on January 21

After showing off Windows 10 at an event in San Francisco and then offering a downloadable preview, Microsoft is ready to unveil a bit more about the next iteration of its operating system. Today, the company sent out invitations to the media titled “Join us to hear about the next chapter of Windows 10.” The event will take place at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington on January 21 and it looks to be a deep dive into Windows 10. Google for iOS gets a Material Design makeover and built-in Maps integration

Yesterday, YouTube for Android received its own Material Design update to match Google’s move towards its latest design aesthetic. Today, the Google app for iOS received an update with Material Design to take advantage of the larger screens on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. In addition to the design update, the app also has Google Maps integration so you can interact with business locations directly from search results.
