How (not) to pitch me

TNW
I first published this yesterday on my personal blog. Although it’s all about my personal preferences, I’m pretty sure the message would remain the same no matter which journalist you speak to – there’s a time and a place for pitches. I’ve been thinking about writing this for a while, and the start of a new year is as good a time as any to do it. While it might seem a bit of a pompous and self-absorbed piece, I get pitched a lot on different social media in addition to via email, and I often feel bad for not replying,…

Sony Playstation Now subscriptions arrive next week, cutting the cost for frequent gamers

Sony has announced that PlayStation 4 owners living in the US or Canada will be able to sign up to a monthly PlayStation Now subscription costing $19.99, starting next week. Previously, access to each individual title on the service had been billed in hourly (every four hours), weekly, monthly or quarterly increments. Now, for just under $20 per month, gamers can get access to the whole catalogue instead, which represents better value for money for frequent users. There’s also a $44.99 option for three-months’ access when the option goes live on January 13, and Sony says there are more than 100…

In the past 12 months around 8,000 different tech companies have pitched story ideas, product launches, and their latest hot news to us. I can tell you one thing: That’s a lot of pitches! And as they don’t come in any kind of orderly manner, it can be hard to keep up. Lean startup methods, accelerators, cheap cloud hosting and better open-source coding libraries have made it all easier to start a tech company compared to 10 years ago. All these companies look for media coverage (hence they reach out to us), funding and ways to acquire customers or users.…

We told you what to expect from CES 2015 and it’s already playing out as we predicted – with a slew of wearables. Garmin’s the latest firm to fling its offerings our way with three new and very different smartwatches – the Fenix 3, Epix and Vivoactive. The Fenix 3 The Fenix 3 is a “smart multi-sport GPS watch”. Translation: as well as built-in GPS and support for Russia’s GLONASS system, the watch will hook up with sensors like heart rate monitors. It will also count your steps and give you hourly reminders to get up and move. For more serious…
