When we think about typefaces, it’s generally in connection with either printed material or online electronic text. Other low-level text — say the readout on a car dashboard or a washing machine or an insulin pump — is at best a subset of the genre, not really rising to the level of being called type. But of course it is type, and because of its medium it’s critical that it not only be legible but pleasing to the eye. Google received 345 million ‘pirate’ link removal requests in 2014

Copyright owners asked Google to take down more than 345 million links from its search results last year, up from just 62 requests back in 2008, reports TorrentFreak. Google shares weekly reports of all the takedown requests it receives, and those numbers for all of 2014 added up to 345,169,134, which means that the search giant had to process over a million reported links per day. While most of these requests result in the links being taken off Google’s search results, the company sometimes takes ‘no action’ if the links don’t seem to actually infringe any copyrights. We caught up with the construction of Apple’s massive new ‘spaceship’ Campus 2 HQ in a drone video last summer. Now Myithz, another drone owner with a GoPro, has brought us an updated flight. Aside from the usual developments in e-commerce and mobile money, it is becoming clearer than ever before that venture capital is growing on the continent, which can only be good news for African startups and entrepreneurs.
