Microsoft launches a Windows Phone app for citizen journalists

Microsoft has just released a new app that lets Windows Phone users create and publish news stories on the move, reports Neowin. Presently in beta, Social News allows users to create stories with photos and video, spot trending news items, and find current stories around them on a map in the Here and Now section. Users can also follow their contacts and see what they’ve been sharing in the app. Social News’ app description mentions that users can also ‘respond to news requests created by professional media partners, and get a chance to get your articles published by professional media.’…

BigStash offers 5TB of long-term file storage free for one year following renaming

Deepfreeze.io, a cloud-storage service that puts your files into ‘deep freeze’ has announced a name change, additional investment and a new free (for one year) 5TB per user limit for new and existing users. In essence, the service allows you to free up other cloud storage services (like Drive or OneDrive etc.) by keeping your infrequently accessed files in a cheaper (but slower to retrieve) service like BigStash. To put that 5TB offer in perspective, that amount of storage with the service would normally cost $500 per year. The lowest tier of 100GB would cost $15 per year. If you…

In 2000, the ASCI Red was the world’s first teraflop supercomputer. 15 years later and NVIDIA has just announced the first teraflop mobile processor – the Tegra X1. The Tegra X1 packs more power into its eight-core 64-bit CPU and 256 GPU cores using less than 15 watts of power than the ASCI Red did into a 1,600 square foot installation using 500,000 watts.
