As pro-democracy rallies rage in the territory, protestors are increasingly giving up on SMS, emails and China’s social media Swiss army knife WeChat in favor of peer-to-peer mesh networking apps like Bridgefy and FireChat. With the government keeping a close eye on social networks — homegrown and elsewhere — in an attempt to stifle dissent, these off-the-grid messaging apps have proven to be a blessing in disguise. Connected things are wonderful until they fail on you. Numerous Tesla owners allegedly experienced this today as they got locked out of the car because the app was apparently down for maintenance. Several users took Twitter to pour out their agony. French travel site Option Way leaks 100GB worth of customer details

A report published today by security research firm VPNMentor suggests its team found 100GB of unsecured customer data from the French travel booking site Option Way. The database includes details such as names, email IDs, addresses, phone numbers, and travel details. The report noted these customers were mainly from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Algeria, and Australia. Apart from customers’ data, the database also contained details of the company’s employees and credit cards used for transactions.
