Twitter troll David Leavitt offers up a master class in how to be an asshole

The dust hadn’t even settled in the concert venue before David Leavitt’s first ill-advised joke. After an explosion killed 22 people, including children, and wounded 59 others at a Manchester, England arena, Leavitt didn’t hesitate. Being first matters, even in tragedy, and especially on Twitter. With a click of the send button, the tweet landed, with a thud, to the disbelief of nearly all who saw it. But Leavitt, a freelance writer with bylines at “CBS, AXS, Yahoo, Examiner, etc.” was oblivious. MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena. The last time I listened to Arianna Grande I almost died too.…

Radsone’s EarStudio is the best gift for audiophiles missing the headphone jack

Yesterday, Facebook was sorry. Millions of people’s private posts were exposed to the public due to a bug. The company’s Chief Privacy Officer, Erin Egan, told reporters “We have fixed this issue and starting today we are letting everyone affected know and asking them to review any posts they made during that time. We’d like to apologize for this mistake.” Facebook is sorry today too. COO Sheryl Sandberg spoke earlier this afternoon at MIT’s commencement, telling grads “it’s hard when you know you let people down.” She continued, “When you own your mistakes, you can work hard to correct them,…

Adblock Plus now blocks social media tracking for Chrome & Firefox

Jun08

Adblock today announced it was joining the fight against social media tracking by allowing users to block what has become so ubiquitous on almost every site out there. Specifically, the tracking which Adblock Plus now aims to thwart is that which originates from social media buttons. You might recognize them — there are some on this very article. Through these buttons, sites can track and build a so-called “shadow profiles” on you even if you don’t click on them, even if you aren’t logged into any of the sites in question. This tracking has been a sticking point for sites…
