Objectively, there are only seven types of dad. This is a fact. Do not dispute it. You may think, “Hey, my dad’s unique and there’s no one else like him,” but I’m sorry to say that you’re both naive and deeply, deeply mistaken. There are only seven types of dad and they’re all listed below. No matter your first impressions, this is a ‘good thing’. With Father’s Day rolling round this Sunday (17th June), the fact there are only seven types of dad will make it easier to buy him a gift. Not only that, we’ve done all the hard…

A cheap Surface computer could help Microsoft win back the education market from Google

Microsoft’s Surface computers are the pinnacle of the PC world, but with the cheapest Surface Pro starting at $800 (sans keyboard or pencil, I should add), they really are bloody expensive. That might soon change, as rumors suggest Redmond is working on a cheaper Surface laptop, which will allow it to compete in the mid-to-low end of the computer market. Crucially, it could help it regain its footings in the education space. The first rumblings came about a month ago, when Bloomberg reporters Mark Gurman and Dina Bass reported that Microsoft was working on a low-cost tablet line, due to…

Some claim that we’re in the ‘golden age’ of music, with more accessibility than ever before. But what happens next? With technology like blockchain creeping into the picture, how do we ensure that we stay golden? We’ve recapped the highlights: Benji Rogers, CEO of dotBlockchain Music Benji discussed the future of blockchain and cryptocurrency in the music industry, stating that while “99 percent of coins and tokens are bullshit, 1 percent of these ideas are absolutely game changing.” He sees the…

Facebook’s data should be a public resource

Vess Popov, an expert in big data and psychometrics, spoke at Brain Bar in Budapest on the future of data. In his talk he shared his concern that platforms like Facebook are becoming more closed off. Their research is more secretive than ever and less of it is making its way to the scientific community and the general public than ever before. Popov’s concern is understandable as he works for the Psychometrics Center at the University of Cambridge, a research institution that pioneered the study of psychology through big data analysis. They’re basically the ‘good guy’ version of Cambridge Analytica,…
