"Scientists have discovered that 'Thinking outside the box might be facilitated by having a somewhat less intact box', which begs the question, why are people always thinking in or around boxes? The US says it has a tool that predicts what will piss off China — I have so many questions

The US has unveiled an unusual new approach to saber-rattling with China: emotion predictions. According to Reuters, military commanders in the Pacific have developed a tool to forecast how the Chinese government will react to American actions in the region. A US defense official said the software calculates “strategic friction,” but provided little detail about how it works. We tried to dig up further information — but unearthed more questions than answers. How would the tool work? The tool reportedly analyses data since early 2020 and assesses the impact of historical actions. It then predicts which future activities will upset…

Infosec community is battling the log4j bug that has the whole internet stressed out. But at the same time, privacy activists might have a wholly different reason to heave a sigh of relief. While this is playing out, Israel-based NSO Group is considering shutting down its notorious spyware product Pegasus, and selling the company — potentially ending a nightmare of breaches of sensitive information and surveillance of prominent global figures and journalists. A report by Bloomberg noted the NSO Group has consulted advisors from New York-based bank Moelis & Co. to chart the road ahead. It said that two unnamed…
