Microsoft Indroduces Chinese Version of XP
With the Windows XP end-of-support date now less than three weeks away, Microsoft has yet another deal trying to woo users off the ancient 12-year-old operating system. The company is offering $100 off new Windows 8 PCs in its Microsoft Stores to anyone who can present their existing Windows XP device to a store associate. There are a few catches though. First of all, the deal is limited to select PCs, a list which is only available in-store. Furthermore, all the computers must cost at least $599. Before you rush off to take advantage (you have almost three months to…

Android Browsers
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, browsers are your window to the Web – be it on your laptop, tablet or pocket rocket. While you may well be one of those unfussy types who would get by just as well on Chrome or Firefox as you would on Dolphin or Opera, equally you may have many different needs from a mobile browser. So, we took a look at some of the biggies, and some of the not-so-biggies on Google Play to see what’s what, and what features you could be missing out on by sticking to your browser guns. Firefox Similar…

thailand iphone protest
Matthew Carpenter-Arévalo is a peer at #DemocraciaEnRed, a Latin America-based movement to promote the evolution of democracy through modern tools. While discontent rooted in the offline world continues to be the source of protests worldwide, few can argue that the lowered cost of communication brought about by the ubiquity of the internet and mobile devices has facilitated the collective expression of that discontent. In places such as Turkey, Brazil, Ukraine, Venezuela and the Middle East, social media has become both the subject of the discussions around protests and the object that enables them. Governments of countries that are used to…

From Chrome and Firefox, to Dolphin and Opera, there’s no shortage of Android browsers to help you navigate your way around the mobile Web. Certainly, there are some differentiators between them – such as the extent to which you can synchronize your browsing between desktop and smartphone, the ability to enhance the experience with add-ons, and whether it still supports the antiquated Flash. However, the general experience is largely the same between them and they all follow a familiar path in terms of how it plugs you into the Internet. Link Bubble, on the other hand, does bring something a…

Birds
Mobile app and testing company TestBirds is launching a new free platform today called BirdFlight which allows users to upload and distribute iOS and Android apps to their own testers. The new service adds a free tier to the company’s existing business model of paid-for managed services and testing apps using its own in-house testers. Naturally, BirdFlight expects that developers with more elaborate testing needs or those that want access to TestBird’s crowd of testers might then upgrade to one of the other chargeable tiers. However, for free, users can upload their apps, create teams and invite their own testers to…
