Jeff Zwelling is co-founder and CEO of Convertro, which provides marketers and agencies with cross-channel analytics, insights and recommendations to monitor and optimize marketing strategies.  There’s an unfortunate trend developing in the professional world, and it’s all a result of our need for talent. Have you ever seen a cartoon where someone is desperately hungry, and everyone he sees just looks like a walking piece of pizza or an ice cream cone? Well, imagine that phenomenon in the workplace, except the thing everyone is desperate for is a qualified candidate, and what they see walking around are giant, upright resumes. Employers…

When Flappy Bird was pulled from the App Store last month, a slew of imitations remained in-tact, and many more flappy/flippy/crappy clones cropped up. Tappy Fit, on the other hand, is taking the concept in a whole new direction. A quick peek at its App Store category, reveals it’s aiming at the Health & Fitness fraternity. While it’s merely an ‘experiment’ at the moment, Tappy Fit hooks up with your Fitbit to make gameplay easier the more steps you take.     If you take no steps, the gap between the pipes remain narrow. But the pipes get gradually wider apart…

Blink, the burst mode camera app for Windows Phone devices, has been fully overhauled, adding new features, a tour for new users and a stills mode. The app was updated yesterday, and according to Microsoft has been downloaded more than one million times since it was launched in February last year. With a new look and new features, we decided to take a look at Blink and see if it still has relevance given that most Windows Phone smartphones are made by Nokia Camera app, as well as apps like Refocus. Snap happy Blink’s whole raison d’être is, essentially, capturing a…

MergePay, the beautifully simple business-focused financial tracking service that we wrote about back in 2012, has finally exited beta and made a number of significant changes, including a rebrand to MergePay Pulse and shift to a freemium model. Previously, users opting to use the service for free were limited to tracking a maximum of nine bills, but now you can track as many as you wish without paying a dime. To recap, MergePay Pulse is essentially a Mint-like service for businesses that tracks incomings and outgoings to ensure users are on top of their finances. But while Mint only covers…

One thing I love about The Next Web is how we’re always iterating. While many of our rivals push out a whole new design every two or three years and then let it grow stale, we’re constantly making tweaks and improvements. Case in point: today our article pages have a fresh new look. This isn’t just about new eye candy, there’s additional functionality here too. You can now quickly add any post to your Buffer, Pocket or Evernote account with the new drop-down ‘Save to’ menu, and there’s easy access to the post’s short URL, making it simpler to manually…
