modern office desk
Franklin Morris is a senior writer for Rackspace. A recent CareerBuilder report finds that 77 percent of full-time workers are either looking for a new job or are open to a change this year. Candidates who haven’t applied in a couple years will quickly find that the rules are different. Anyone who still thinks dropping off a resume at the front desk is enough will have better luck uploading it to their MySpace page and rushing to the nearest pay phone to place a follow-up call. Meanwhile, companies of all sizes are in a mad dash to recruit talented candidates using the…

Microsoft’s efforts to go up against rivals like Netflix and Amazon in the TV arena by commissioning original TV programming for its Xbox service will bear its first fruit in June this year, according to Bloomberg. Reported today, comedians Sarah Silverman and Seth Green, “aspiring World Cup players” and human-like robots will star in some of the first content to come out of Microsoft’s Xbox Entertainment Studios. On Air
Microsoft is extending its reach into the broadcasting realm with a new product called Skype TX, which it calls “studio grade software that delivers high quality audio and video output to seamlessly connect broadcast and media productions with people around the world.” Skype TX will be available “in the coming year”, and the product is a result of a recent acquisition of its long-time partner Cat and Mouse. This basically now means that Skype will be better integrated into a professional studio set-up. Indeed, the Cat and Mouse URL now redirects to a ‘Skype in Media’ section, which in turn…

David Noy is CMO of Ginger Software, a language learning and productivity boosting software for ESL and native English speakers. Chargers
Running out of power is pretty much the biggest pain of modern day smartphones, and while sitting around waiting for them to charge isn’t usually the end of the world, there are still better things you could be doing. Enter StoreDot, an Israeli technology company with a special battery and charger that can supposedly cut re-juicing time down to around 30 seconds. The prototype charging unit, designed for the Samsung Galaxy S4, was demoed for the first time at Microsoft’s Think Next conference in Tel Aviv, Israel, today – but most of the innovation comes in the battery pack itself,…
