"Mother's Day is a very complex holiday. It starts with a simple premise: Let your Mother know you love her. After that, she'll argue with you all day, telling you how you don't love her, just so that you have to apologize and show her how much you love her, despite being yelled at all day." ~ Yasha Harari

SWEDEN-FACEBOOK-DATA-CENTER-SERVERS
Facebook today revealed the number of data requests it received from various law enforcement agencies around the world in the second half of last year: 28,147. Those requests impacted a potential 38,256 accounts, according to the company. Since Facebook only released its first report in August 2013, we can’t compare to see how these results compare to previous years. We can, however, compare the second half of 2013 (July to December) against the first half (January to June), as well as get a total for the full year. The new numbers for the second half of last year are slightly…

crimea russia ukraine
This post was originally published on East-West Digital News and has been republished with permission. Three weeks after Russia asserted that Crimea and the city of Sebastopol have become part of its territory, Facebook and Russian-language social network Vkontakte still categorize the inhabitants of these regions as being located in Ukraine. Meanwhile, two other major social networks, Odnoklassniki (Classmates) and Moi Mir (My World), have already classified them as being part of the Russian Federation. Wikipedia, on its side, appears to have changed Crimea’s status several times already, reported Russia Beyond The Headlines. Sparking an editing quarrel that lasted several days, Crimea was…

Morning for iOS has proven to be a popular tool for getting all the crucial need-to-knows to start your day, but thus far it has been an iPad-only affair. With the latest update, however, two-man development team Tamper has made it available for iPhone users too. In a nutshell, Morning collates all the information you may need to know each morning, including weather, tasks, traffic (commute time), news, calendar, stocks, countdown timer and, of course, time. Additionally, you can customize the look-and-feel with a range of themes.     Morning is a beautiful app for sure and, as such, it has actually been…

Who would’ve thought that weather-themed audio apps would prove such a hit? Way back in July last year, we brought you news on Taptanium’s Thunderspace, a stereoscopic 3D soundscape of thundery weather for iOS, from the creators of popular weather app Haze. Similar to Raining.fm, Thunderspace serves up a blustery weather-based audio experience, designed to help you ‘relax’. But Thunderspace really went the extra mile in putting the various soundcapes together – it even introduced ‘real’ wind to the mix too. Now, the Germany-based app development studio has teamed up once more with Emmy-award winning nature sound recording artist Gordon…

Tech5
A month ago we teamed up with global payments technology provider Adyen to launch a new competition in search of Europe’s fastest growing tech startups: The European Tech5. After receiving a ton of submissions and screening more than a hundred companies across seven countries in Europe, the list of the fastest growing young European tech companies is ready. The Tech5 lists are based on actual revenue, traffic and employee data and shows the growth rate between 2011 and 2013. The main entry criteria for the Tech5 was that they must’ve launched in 2009 or later, have more than €500,000 in…
