stretching exercise
Mikael Cho is the co-founder of Crew, a network that connects short-term software projects with handpicked developers and designers. I was in. I always wanted a standing desk. I heard the benefits. And read the studies. The American Cancer Society tracked 123,000 people for an 18-year period and found the death rate was higher in people that sat more than six hours per day. In another study with over 200,000 participants, researchers noted that even active people (those who exercised for at least five hours a week) had an increased risk of death if they sat longer. There was even one test done by a company that showed…

carousel-2
Dropbox today announced a new photo and video sharing gallery called Carousel that combines photos in your Dropbox account with those on your mobile devices and makes it easy to share them with your contacts. The company says the service “isn’t constrained by the space on your phone,” though it’s not clear how storage will work between your Dropbox account and mobile photo backups. You’ll be able to use the app to hold private conversations about your photos with friends, as well as add their photos to your own events. Carousel is now live in Google Play and should arrive…

Dropbox has announced that the Android version of its popular email client Mailbox will arrive today. The company also showed off a Mac version of the app, which is currently accepting beta signups. Update: The app is now available in the Google Play Store here. Also new to Mailbox is an auto-swipe function that can learn from individual archive and snooze actions in order to process similar emails in the future. Mailbox launched early last year to a lengthy reservation list. Within weeks, Dropbox stepped in to acquire the company in order to help it scale. ➤ Mailbox Image credit: Ingram…

Dropbox, the cloud storage firm that’s reportedly preparing for a much-anticipated public listing, has made its business-focused service available for all corporate users. Dropbox for Business got a major update last November which, most notably, began to let users combine their personal and work accounts in one place, making things far easier for those that use both types of service. The dual account mode also gives admins greater control of company data — an important point for corporate security — while there is a remote wipe setting that adds a further layer of security. Other features of the revamped business service include…

Facebook unveils larger, but fewer right-hand column ads rolling out ‘in the coming months’

Internet Market Considers MIcrosoft Bid for Yahoo
Facebook today unveiled a new look for ads in the right-hand column: they will be larger, but there will be fewer of them. The company says it plans to roll out these new ads “in the coming months.” Facebook claims the new format will make right-hand column ads “more visually consistent with the ads that appear in News Feed” as they will have the same proportions. At the same time, the company is hoping that this change will offer advertisers “a simpler way to create ads and an enhanced creative canvas” on the right-hand column of the desktop site. More…
