Lunecase
When using phones, we mostly pay attention to the front side of the gadget where the screen is, while its rear isn’t usually considered to be of any importance. Ukraine-based startup Concepter, known for its crowdfunded smartphone flash iblazr, has decided to put the back of your iPhone to use by giving it simple notifications for calls and text messages. Surprisingly, the $50 “smart case” dubbed Lunecase, a Kickstarter campaign of which began today, does not have a battery of its own. Moreover, it lacks any connectors as it only needs to catch electromagnetic waves that iPhone emits when receiving a call or a…

If you have a SoundCloud Pro Unlimited subscription, you can now see exactly which cities your listeners are playing, liking, reposting, commenting and downloading your tracks from. For up-and-coming bands, DJs, singer-songwriters and stand-up comedians, that sort of information is incredibly valuable. Knowing where your fans are, or where you’re most likely to attract an audience is pivotal when planning one-off concerts, as well as nationwide and international tours. To access the feature, just hit the new ‘Top Cities’ tab in the dashboard. Square Reader + iPhone 3G
Square today announced three new tools for sellers: Pickup, Offline Mode, and Inventory tracking. The trio is meant to help them drive more customers to their business and simplify their operations. The first is very straightforward: Square now lets sellers offer customers an option to pre-order and pick up their purchase. The new pickup tool on Square Market integrates with Square Register and is available to all sellers at an 8 percent processing fee per order. Like all Square tools, access and setup are free, and sellers receive payment the next business day. Offline Mode meanwhile enables sellers to use…

Amazon is dedicating part of its store to the ever-growing number of wearable devices on the market. The online hub, simply called Wearable Technology, covers smartwatches, wearable cameras such as the GoPro, healthcare devices and fitness trackers. Given the space is relatively young, Amazon is also educating customers with an area called Learning Center. It includes buying guides for a few different wearable categories (activity trackers, smartwatches and wearable cameras) and a library of videos that demonstrate some of the retailer’s most popular products. Amazon is promising a large range of brands to choose from, including smaller companies such as…

Utah Software Engineer Mints Physical Bitcoins
Two MIT students have successfully raised more than half a million dollars in order to give all 4,528 undergraduate students on campus $100 worth of the cryptocurrency to use as they see fit. Rather than being another Bitcoin publicity stunt, the pair say that the intention is to establish a genuine ecosystem for digital currencies at the university and to help MIT maintain its long heritage at the cutting edge of technology. “Giving students access to cryptocurrencies is analogous to providing them with Internet access at the dawn of the internet era,” Jeremy Rubin, one half of the duo behind the project,…
