Ilya Pozin is a serial entrepreneur, writer, and investor. He is the founder of online video entertainment platform Pluto.TV, social greeting card company Open Me and digital marketing agency Ciplex. Rebranding can be a risky business. It’s more than just a fresh coat of paint on your company brand, it also signals your organization is embracing a new way of doing business. Plus, your current brand already has recognition and market share, so it’s important not to throw out the good with the bad.  Change can be scary, but it’s often necessary – especially as markets can be quick-moving and volatile. Learning from common rebranding…

US-IT-GOOGLE
Update: It seems WatchESPN wasn’t the only app to receive Chromecast support today. Google has revealed that the MLS Matchday app will also support its low-cost streaming dongle, giving you the ability to stream prime-time soccer fixtures to any TV set. The Google+ app for Android and iOS is also getting the same treatment; by pressing the cast button in the Photos section, you can easily stream all of your archived photos and videos. Finally, Crunchyroll has updated its app to support Chromecast – if you’re not familiar, it’s an on-demand streaming service that specializes in Japanese anime and Asian…

OnePlus wants to enter the smartphone battlefield with a bang, not a whimper. Its motto “never settle” suggests a smartphone free of compromises and sacrifices. The best handset, both in terms of the hardware and software experience. The startup, born out of fellow Chinese manufacturer Oppo, is raising the stakes even higher with its pricing. Its first smartphone, simply called the One, will be sold for $299 (16GB) and $349 (64GB) later this year. That’s significantly cheaper than the Nexus 5, which is currently available for $349 (16GB) and $399 (64GB) from the Google Play store. It’s hard not to…

Facebook has acquired a Finnish startup called Pryte, a yet-to-launch company that enables single-click mobile data purchases on a “need-to and per app basis”. Founded in 2013, Pryte’s technology was geared towards developing markets, where mobile data may be less accessible or affordable. So in effect, a user could buy a short-term pass to check out Instagram or Facebook, without committing to a monthly plan – kind of like pay-as-you-go, but on a more micro level. As Reuters notes, terms of the deal have not been disclosed, though Pryte does reveal in its announcement that it will be working to…

Google today announced the debut of a 64-bit version of Chrome for Windows, starting with the introduction of 64-bit Dev and Canary channels for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. You can download both now from their respective pages: Dev and Canary. It’s worth noting that in both cases the 64-bit version is offered by default if you are running a 64-bit flavor of Windows, though the 32-bit version is still available. This would suggest Google eventually plans to serve up the 64-bit version of Chrome as the default version for 64-bit Windows users. Google explains that going 64-bit has…
