app store
Apple CEO Tim Cook heralded this year’s WWDC event as the biggest ever, thanks to a slew of announcements and features for developers and consumers. One of the most interesting aspects of the event was the increased focus on iMessage. In response to the growth of messaging apps, iMessage is getting a big revamp in iOS 8. It will feature push-to-talk voice messages, a shortcut for quickly taking selfie images, support for group chats, and location sharing. In addition, all media is set to self-destruct by default unless the user explicitly saves it onto their device. These new features will make iMessage more like an app than just…

Uber today announced it has raised a whopping $1.2 billion from “top tier institutional investors, mutual funds, private equity and venture capital partners.” The new funding round values the company at around $17 billion, and Uber expects the total amount raised to be $1.4 billion once a second batch of investors are finalized. Uber’s private car hire service has made quite an impression since it debuted four years ago. The ability to call up a car and pay with a smartphone app was hardly new, but Uber’s broad selection of vehicles, location-tracking features and premium customer experience certainly set it…

DJ Saul is the CMO at iStrategyLabs. Perhaps it’s because I can toss a business card across the table with the accuracy of Peyton Manning that I often get asked to speak about the idea of “networking” or how to become a “superconnector.” That said, the word “networking” often connotes the transactional, disingenuous side of relationship building. At the end of the day, one of the best ways to build and strengthen relationships is to provide selfless value to others. Here’s what not to do, and what you should be doing instead: You are doing it wrong The business card collecting, name-dropping,…

Microsoft today released two useful OneNote tools: Clipper for Chrome and a Springpad migration tool. Having made OneNote free for all platforms, the company is now looking at more ways of boosting usage of its note-taking apps. For those who don’t know, OneNote Clipper is a bookmarklet for saving webpages to OneNote, and the Chrome extension now lets you do so right from Google’s browser. Here it is in action: To get the extension, just visit onenote.com/clipper in Chrome, click the purple “Install to Chrome” button and then “Add.” To clip something, just browse to any webpage and click the…
