mobile gamer
Robert Weber is the co-founder and senior vice president of business development at NativeX, the leading native advertising platform for mobile games. If you only know about native advertising as it’s described in most major media coverage (such as this recent Wall Street Journal report), you might assume the ad format is little more than ads that resemble Facebook updates, or sponsored articles attached to genuine editorial. Indeed, native ads were implicated in the recent strife at the venerable New York Times. There’s a rich irony to this narrow definition: The New York Times itself, along with every other major media…

Latitude
How can we deal with the growing problem of waste and pollution? That’s the question that research firm Latitude asked 270 children aged 8 to 13. The results may not give environmentalists much to work on but they certainly tell us a lot about how kids think about technology and the world around them. Below are some of our favorite solutions devised by the children. You can find the full ‘Trash to Treasure’ report here [PDF]. Today’s children will one day live in a world where robots do many forms of menial and manual labor. This girl won’t be phased by that. If a forthcoming…

Running
Dr. Thomas J. Morrow is the Chief Medical Officer at aren’t hesitant to share their suspicions that health benefits of trackers are short-lived. Users may experience a quick boost from their Fuelband, FitBit, or Jawbone UP, but results soon plateau and they’re gives you a personalized plan that takes into consideration your goals and fitness level. As you log daily runs, the app knows to adjust the next day’s workout based on the results (or lack thereof) that it detects. Health needs to follow the lead of MY ASICS and other intelligent training apps and point the way to a…

Path
Path, the much-discussed social app startup that is either a flop or ‘big in Asia’ depending on who you ask, is set to change its private messaging feature to an ‘ephemeral’ model next week, users have been informed. As of June 11, all messages sent to other users will be available to them for just 24 hours before disappearing and being deleted from Path’s servers, the company says. “A limited number of messages” sent before that date will remain available, although logging out of the app, deleting or updating it will result in these histories disappearing too. Path doesn’t explain why…

us immigration green card
Mikita Mikado is a software engineer and entrepreneur from Belarus, now based in San Francisco. He is the co-founder and CEO of Quote Roller and PandaDoc. While Congress is trying to decide on immigration reform, I’ve been through the excruciating, year-and-a-half-long process of getting a long-term US visa. I wasn’t looking to work for an American company. I was looking to build a company and create jobs on American soil. After trials, tribulations and a couple rejections, here I am, finally staring at a shiny sticker inside my worn-out Belarusian passport. As many will tell you, immigrating to the US is really tough….
