VideoTuner
Microsoft has launched a new app called Video Tuner which allows Lumia owners to edit clips and add effects to movies captured on their phone. Available to download from today, the app allows you to quickly edit, re-crop, add a filter and more in just a few presses. You can also use it to add a slow-motion section to your video, and all your subsequent creations can be saved directly to OneDrive for storage or sharing. If you’d rather have some music instead of the original audio, you can use an non-DRM protected MP3 as the soundtrack – it’ll need to be locally…

NPD: Tablet shipments declined year-over-year for the first time in Q1 2014, annual growth still expected

JAPAN-TELECOM-COMPANY-DOCOMO
We’ve seen many sources indicate that tablet shipment growth is slowing, with the latest report suggesting it could be on its way into the negative. Now it has finally happened: tablet PC shipments declined year-over-year for the first time in Q1 2014. The news comes from a quarterly report by NPD, which explains many brands saw weak tablet shipments in the first three months of the year “due in part to delayed launches of new products.” While the firm has lowered its forecast for tablet shipments in 2014 (from 315 million to 285 million), it is still projecting an overall…

Vevo has released an update for its Android app that brings it in line with the iOS version by ushering in a new UI and features designed to make it easier to discover new videos. Announced today, the app has a new Home screen with a real-time feed of premieres, original Vevo shows, recommended playlists and news about your favorite artists, as well as a redesinged Browse screen. Among other tweaks, there are also improvements for video playlists – you can now watch them in shuffle mode or copy Vevo-curated playlists to your own account. You can also now view related videos while watching another….

Pre-Order 101 Ready-To-Use Excel Formulas

Jul09
by Sindy Cator on July 9, 2014 at 2:48 pm
Posted In: Around the Web

The venerable Mike Alexander and I wrote a book last Spring and now you can pre-order it at Amazon (ships next month). 101 Ready-To-Use Excel Formulas

This book is not a list of worksheet functions and a description of their arguments. It contains fully formed formulas that solve real world problems. For example, there’s a whole chapter on financial formulas like creating an amortization schedule and calculating depreciation. I know financial stuff isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, that’s why we included 101 formulas. Mike wanted to write a book called One Ready-to-Use Excel Formula, but I said “Wait, what if we increased that number so there’s something for everyone?” I’m always looking out for you, dear reader.

You definitely want to buy one for yourself. But you should also buy one for that person in the office that needs it. You know that person who adds up the numbers in a spreadsheet on a calculator and then types the sum into Excel? Leave a copy of this book anonymously on his desk. Your boss might even reimburse you for it.

Sick of wonky weather forecasts? Climendo tells you the best providers based on their prior predictions

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had your fill of weather-related apps. But that doesn’t mean you’re not interested in getting one-up on mother nature by pre-empting any storms that may or may not be heading your way. Depending on which weather forecast you look at, the outcome may look slightly different. This is where Climendo, a Swedish startup that compares and combines weather forecasts for your specific location, comes in. It’s an aggregator, if you will. It’s just brought a particularly interesting new feature to its iPhone app, one that tells you which provider was the most accurate…
