Cloud Imperium has soared past the $50 million crowdfunding mark for its highly ambitious space simulation video game Star Citizen. At the time of writing, the developer has raised just over $51 million from more than 525,000 fans. The latest milestone has unlocked yet another premium feature for the game; natural and realistic languages for three alien races. Such a high level of crowdfunding is almost unprecedented in the video game industry. Kickstarter has helped a number of independent developers put their passion projects into motion, but the time-restricted nature of the platform usually limits the overall level of funding…

Dolphin

Mobile browsers are solidifying their importance amidst the mobile revolution, as more and more people access the internet via their smartphones and tablets, abandoning the desktop experience in the process. Dolphin is one of the oldest and most popular third-party browsers for Android — we called it a “genuinely beautiful Android browser” in a roundup — currently claiming more than 100 million users worldwide. Dolphin Browser was started in the US back in 2010. Amazon’s Whispersync for Voice has been open for business in the US for a while already, and now it’s available in the UK too, its second launch market. To recap, Whispersync for Voice lets users switch between reading ebooks and listening to audio books without losing their place, thanks to Audible integration, the audio entertainment company acquired by Amazon back in 2008. There are around 25,000 professionally narrated audiobooks available on Audible in the UK. Until recently, US readers using the Android and iOS Kindle apps have been required to install the separate Audible app to make the switch between…

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange dropped a bombshell today, after revealing that he plans to leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London “soon.” Responding to a question at a press conference at the embassy, where he has resided for the past two years, the Australian confirmed his intention, but gave no specific time frame for his exit. Assange was equally elusive as to why he is planning to move on, though he did say that it is not motivated by health reasons, as was suggested by media. Assange held a press conference which was all streamed online Earlier comments from Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino suggested…
