In a move that mirrors rival Uber, Hailo has today announced that its public API for on-demand transport is now available for developers to integrate into their apps. It would seem that a Wednesday in mid-August is the day to launch your transport API – either that or Hailo didn’t want Uber grabbing all the limelight with its announcement today. Whichever it is, developers can now include in-app information from Hailo’s service such as ride availability and the estimated time of arrival of a nearby car. The move follows the integration of Hailo with Citymapper back in July, which is what spurred…

Shazam can be a valuable tool when you’re sitting in a bar and desperate to identify the music playing in the background. If you’ve been wondering how many other people do the same, this figure should put it in perspective: the platform has 100 million monthly active users. The company says this is a 34 percent increase from last year, fuelled by more than 500 million mobile downloads. On average, this equates to 13 million new users each month, identifying songs over 20 million times per day. Over the last 12 months, Shazam has changed drastically. The always-on “Auto Shazam”…

Bop.fm, a unified music streaming platform that simplifies sharing and listening to records from multiple sources online, today introduced a useful “follow” feature for user-created playlists. Verified Artist pages, first unveiled in June, allow established musicians, bands and singers to take greater control over their public Bop.fm page and share a wealth of information with their fans, such as tour dates and popular tracks. The page also allows them to create their own playlists – but until now, it was difficult and time-consuming for fans to keep track of them. Now, listeners can navigate to any playlist page, including those created…

SlideShare, a platform owned by LinkedIn for sharing presentations, documents, infographics and other files, is now completely free to use. As TechCrunch notes, the optional Pro tiers that existed before have been stripped out and premium features, including analytics, profile customization and private uploads, are being opened up to all users. New and existing “free” users won’t receive all these goodies straight away, however. SlideShare will be rolling out one new feature every month, starting in September. They haven’t announced the order, or when the roll-out will be completed, but presumably it’s been done to keep newcomers engaged. A spokesperson…

Skype today announced a new feature called active endpoint that ensures you only receive chat notifications on the device that you are currently using. The Microsoft-owned company says the new functionality is rolling out “over the next few weeks,” and all you have to do is make sure that your devices have the latest versions of Skype. In other words, if you’ve ever used the communication app on multiple devices and been frustrated by getting multiple sounds and vibrations for every single message, you’ll be happy to learn that will soon be an annoyance of the past. Skype understands your…
