Crystal Coleman is the Director of Community at Townsquared. This post originally appeared on CMX Hub. Negotiation certainly wasn’t something I learned when I started out as a community manager in 2006. Back then, I was just excited to get paid to talk about the TV show LOST in an online forum for 10 or 15 hours per week. I have learned a lot since 2006 as my career…

Google has announced the acquisition of Lift Labs, a research group that created tremor-canceling technology for patients with Parkinson’s disease. Lift Labs will join the Google X lab and continue to sell its Liftware spoon gadget, which makes it easier for patients to eat. “We’re also going to explore how their technology could be used in other ways to improve the understanding and management of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor,” Google said in a statement. Liftware uses a neat trick of repurposing the image stabilization technology found in cameras to cancel out the tremors caused by…

If you’re a heavy Twitter user, you may well have noticed a shortcoming in the platform – it’s really hard to search for tweets according to where they originated. And that’s exactly the problem that Castround for Android has been designed to fix. Why might you want to do this? Well, perhaps you just want to see what people are tweeting about at a specific spot in town, or perhaps you just landed in a new city on vacation, or maybe you just want to see what people in Scotland are tweeting about this week ahead of the independence referendum. Castround’s…

Earlier today, Google started offering Google Voice users the option to migrate their accounts to Hangouts. Now, we know the full extent of the update: As well as integrating Google Voice accounts, all Hangouts users (iOS, Android and Web) can now make voice-only calls to one another, as well as free calls to regular numbers in the US and Canada. In addition, Google is promising “really low” rates for international numbers. The updated Android app, version 2.3, will be rolled out over the next few days, however iOS and Web users should be able to access these features by simply relaunching…
