Pimpin’ My Site

When Doug posted about Data Comparison Tricks, I saw Dick tell him to “pimp his site” in the comments.

Having a vivid imagination, this is what went through my head.

Yo Dawg!

Anyway, that’s what I’ll now proceed to do. (Having obtained Dick’s permission first of course!)

Here’s some stuff I’ve been working on recently.

A multi-field Find and Select/Replace tool.

AET Find and Replace

Although a bit old, (like me), some of the code came from this.

AET Cell Watch Form

Here’s the old post about it from back in 2009. (From my former blog, which I’ll also pimp!)

An alternative Status Bar that recognizes numbers even if the format is text. Woohoo!

AET Status Bar

And some games. (For the kids, but you can play too)
Grrr...
That’s enough pimpin’ for now. (I’m making new stuff as I write this) See you next time?

Facebook is reportedly working on healthcare-focused features for users

Facebook already knows an awful lot about you and your life, but it could be looking to get a grip on your healthcare info too, according to a report by Reuters today. The article cites “three people familiar with the matter” as the source of the information that suggests the data-gobbling, social networking giant could be looking to introduce support communities for people suffering from specific medical ailments and “prevantative care” apps to help people generally improve their lifestyle. Like Apple and Google’s recent interest in healthcare, if Facebook does decide to go down this road it could prove another valuable…

Facebook’s $19bn WhatsApp acquisition gets green light from European antitrust regulators, as expected

Facebook’s $19 billion purchase of messaging company WhatsApp has been given the go-ahead by the European Commission. While we didn’t really expect the Europe’s antitrust regulators to try and stand in the way of the deal, Facebook has now been informed that it can go ahead and finalize proceedings despite both companies holding massive market share with their respective services. “We have carefully reviewed this proposed acquisition and come to the conclusion that it would not hamper competition in this dynamic and growing market. Consumers will continue to have a wide choice of consumer communications apps,”Joaquín Almunia, EC Vice President in charge of competition policy, said…

Hands-on with the Hudl2 tablet: Does Tesco have another hit on its hands?

Fe

British supermarket giant Tesco lifted the lid on the Hudl2 earlier this morning, the follow-up to the successful Hudl tablet that launched last year. We managed to grab a hands-on with the device to garner some first impressions. At 8.3-inches, the Hudl2’s screen is markedly bigger than the 7-inches of its predecessor – and that’s a good thing, considering this is being pitched as an entertainment device. The most immediately striking facet of the tablet is the picture quality. At full HD (1920×1200), watching movies on this fella’ is impressive – crystal clear sharpness. Coupled with the increased size, the…

Fiber broadband speeds are falling in the UK, but cable is getting faster

Fiber

If you’re a fiber broadband subcsriber in the UK, there’s a good chance that the broadband speeds you receive are slower than they used to be, according to an Ofcom report today. The UK’s telecom watchdog said that in the six months to May 2014, fiber broadband packages saw a decrease of nearly 1Mbps – from 42.9Mbps to 42Mbps. Conversely, cable broadband services – primarily provided by Virgin Media in the UK – increased by 3.1Mbps to 43.3Mbps, overtaking fiber for the first time. Ofcom said much of the increase was due to the uptake of higher speed packages. While on…
