Back in April, Facebook announced Audience Network, its new mobile ad network. Following a limited test phase, Facebook has revealed it’s now officially opening for business around the globe. The Audience Network is designed to help publishers and developers monetize their mobile apps by showing Facebook ads to their own users, essentially extending Facebook’s targeting to third-party services. Constituting three formats – banner, interstitial and native – the Audience Network should help companies deliver more relevant ads to their users. Though it is technically open to all, you will still need to apply to access the Audience Network. ➤ Facebook’s…

This post is part of a new series titled “Business Social,” and is brought to you by Hootsuite.

Social media has become a cornerstone of consumer life. The Pew Center points out that as of January 2014, 74 percent of American adults use social networking sites. When it comes to the workforce, however, there is an arbitrarily fine line between personal and professional identity. Many organizations implement a “no social media while on duty” policy, leaving team members feeling uncomfortable about mixing what they’re doing…

SoundCloud today announced a redesign of its music player on the Web that follows its iOS and Android apps in making track art more prominent. Visuals now serve as the background behind SoundCloud’s characteristic waveform audio. The company has also enabled scrolling through playlists without having to click to a separate page. Viewing waveform comments on the Web is faster, and all comments and replies are now located on the track’s page. SoundCloud has also moved track info into a single “Read more” pop-up. ➤ Things are looking better on the web [SoundCloud]

Rumors of Google+’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. That is, at least, according to Google+ chief Dave Besbris in an interview with Re/Code. He says: “We’re actually very happy with the progress of Google+, [CEO Larry Page] said this at the time that Vic [Gundotra] transitioned that he’s going to continue working on building this stuff, that he’s very happy with it. The company is behind it. I have no idea where these rumors come from to be honest with you.” Certainly, if recent acquisitions are anything to go by, it seems that Google is perhaps just refocusing its efforts…

Payments are tricky. Square, PayPal and others are still working on getting you to pay with your phone. The new Plastc payment card would potentially takes all these payment systems and shove them into a single credit card-sized entity that supports magnetic card readers, Chip and PIN, NFC, RFID and QR codes. It has a touchscreen E-ink display and connects to the companion iOS and Android…
