Tweetbot
Tweetbot, the popular Twitter app for iOS and OS X, was pulled from the Mac App Store yesterday as users reported that it stopped allowing new logins, reports 9to5Mac. It’s not clear whether the issue arose due to a glitch or because the app had reached its Twitter token limit. Todd Thomas, a developer at Tapbots, said that the latter is not likely. @hbkirb will look into it. According to last token count I saw we shouldn’t be out. @tweetbot — Todd Thomas (@toddthomas) January 25, 2015 Nearly a day after the initial report, the app still hasn’t returned to the Mac…

Facebook
Facebook has launched a new Android app geared towards low-end mobile devices and designed to work on 2G networks, reports TechCrunch. The company hasn’t officially announced Facebook Lite, which explains why the free app has only reached between 10,000 and 50,000 installs since January 20 when it launched on Google Play. Facebook Lite is currently available in Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. The app is a tiny 252KB download. It promises quick load times with efficient mobile data usage and includes Facebook’s messaging features. This isn’t Facebook’s first initiative in emerging markets. The company’s Internet.org…

Lunar
Bitcoin wallet service Coinbase will launch the US’ first Bitcoin exchange later today, reports The Wall Street Journal. The news comes just days after the Winklevoss twins announced their plans to open a Bitcoin exchange this year. The exchange will allow individuals and companies to do business in about half the states in the US where Coinbase has regulatory approval. Coinbase will take a 0.25 percent cut of most transactions and waive fees for the first two months. Coinbase, which has 2.1 million consumer wallets and 38,000 merchants processing Bitcoin payments through its platform, received $75 million in funding, in…

MA Hack
Malaysia Airlines ‘ website has been hacked today by the cyber-attack group Lizard Squad, which now appears to be calling itself ‘Official Cyber Caliphate’. The national carrier’s site shows a header that says ‘404 – Plane Not Found’, likely a reference to the loss of Flight MH370 last March and the shooting down of Flight MH17 in July. However, Malaysia Airlines says that its servers are intact and have not leaked any user data, and that it has solved the issue which appears to have been a DNS attack. The company says its site will become fully operational in about…
