Kunal Sarda is a Techstars and Wharton alum, and co-founder of VerbalizeIt, a translation services platform for business. Facebook’s $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp has been a topic of many envious conversations. Less discussed is how a company founded in the US became the go-to messaging app in virtually every country besides the US. The global dominance of WhatsApp was far from accidental. Founder Jan Koum says he built the product with a “global first” approach, and internationalized the app from its very early days to boost global discoverability and usability. Are you ready to be the next global sensation, but don’t know…

How to bail out of noisy Twitter conversations using mute

While you can drop out of a Twitter group DM,  you’re still stuck in any public Twitter conversation that include your user name. This phenom is also referred to as a canoe (because they’re long boats filled with people?). Sometimes these conversations go for hours – even days – filling your notifications with inane comments about nothing. If you’re trapped in one of those god-awful public conversations, you can drop out without the rest of the members knowing by muting one of the members. Before you fire up the Twitter site and start muting people, stop. That’s just going to mute tweets from…

Remember the job search app LinkedIn introduced for iOS last year? Well, now Android has a counterpart. The company says the app brings all the same features seen on iOS, but was built from scratch for Android. The interface is similar to the iOS edition, with some Android-esque touches like side tabs. Like the iOS app, it’s intended to help you search for a jobs in your free time on the go. You can weed through jobs with title, location, company, industry and seniority level filters. You’ll also get recommendations based on your search history, and it’ll notify you when…

Android Wear now lets you find your phone with a voice command

Losing your phone is really annoying if you’re late for something and need to rush out. Fret no more, Android Wear users – Google now lets you find your phone with your smartwatch thanks to an update adding Wear support to Android Device Manager. On your watch, simply say “Ok Google. Start. Find my phone” or select the ‘Find my phone’ option from the start menu to reconnect with your beloved device. Your phone will ring at full volume so long as it’s within range of your smartwatch. Granted, that’s only Bluetooth’s short range, but I’ve wanted this for a…

TNW Video
One thing that struck me early on about TNW Conference was how different the talks are to those at many competing events. Our talks tend to be stories, not sales pitches – and the speakers are some of the best storytellers in the world. From big data, to social media and entrepreneurship, we’re sitting on an archive of brilliant talks that we should be sharing with the world. TNW Video is our new platform designed to bring the experience of attending our conferences to a wider audience. Already there are some great talks ready for you to watch, including  ‘How to…
