Good morning! It’s the first day of a new week so you know what that means. It’s time for Hard Fork’s wrap-up of the weekend’s top cryptocurrency and blockchain headlines. Take a look. 1. Owners of Apple’s hotly anticipated credit card will not be able to buy cryptocurrency with it, Reuters reports. A customer agreement posted to Apple Card partner Goldman Sachs‘ website last Friday said the card “cannot be used to purchase cash advances or cash equivalents that include cryptocurrencies…” Hey, at least they recognize cryptocurrency as cash, kind of. 2. The Bitcoin blockchain network is going from strength…

Subscribe to our monthly Lady Bits newsletter NOW! Welcome back to Lady Bits, our feminist newsletter that makes everyone mad <3 Each month, our gloriously talented designer, Saïna, illustrates a shitty comment or tweet we receive from one of TNW’s misogynistic readers. Here’s this month’s: Congrats on your woke story — Ari M. Eden (@AriMEden) July 17, 2019 We know you don’t mean it as a compliment, Ari, but as a thank you for your insight, Saïna made this: the bloody news Meet Alyssa Carson, the 18-year-old training to become the first human on Mars. Using the Bechdel Test, here’s how movies got (kinda) less sexist over 129 years.…

Huawei hasn’t given up on its ambitious homegrown OS project. According to a report by Chinese media site Global Times, the company might release a phone running the HongMeng OS by the end of the year.  The report suggests the mid-range device might be priced around 2000 Yuan ($288). Its aim is to attract developers and users to to join the ecosystem, which is being built to rival Google’s Android OS. As such, the goal may not be to initially sell large volumes of this model, but to introduce HongMeng OS in a low-cost package. The company is set to host its…

Popular website infrastructure and security services provider Cloudflare announced it’s terminating service for 8chan in the wake of deadly terrorist attack in El Paso, Texas over the weekend. The 21-year-old suspect in the Walmart mass shooting, which resulted in the deaths of 20 people, is said to have posted a white nationalist rant on the message board favored by many on the far-right before the attack. Calling 8chan a “cesspool of hate,” CEO Matthew Prince wrote that the company will no longer offer protection from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks as of midnight Pacific Time. “The rationale is simple: they have…

Over the weekend, French inventor and former jet-ski champion Franky Zapata made history by crossing the English Channel – which is roughly 35 kilometers (22 miles) wide – on a hoverboard designed by his company. Claiming to have reached speeds of 177 kmph (110 mph) while airborne, the 40-year-old completed the journey in 22 minutes early Sunday morning, stopping midway on a floating platform in the water to refuel his Zapata Flyboard. It’s the Frenchman’s second attempt to cross the Channel with his ‘personal aviation system.’ On his first one at the end of July, Zapata narrowly missed the refueling…
