In case you haven’t heard Samsung revealed the Galaxy Note 10 yesterday – or rather, the Note 10 and Note 10+. By splitting the lineup into two sizes, Samsung was able to make one of its boldest choices since it introduced the original Note in 2011: it actually made the newest Note‘s screen a bit smaller. I had a chance to spend some time with both devices during Samsung’s Unpacked event. If you want more detailed coverage of the basic specs and features, you can check out our announcement post here. This post is simply a collection of some thoughts…

Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo join forces against lootboxes

The three big console makers have just pledged to put an end to the “gambling” aspect of lootboxes, meaning the gaming industry might finally put this whole shady moneymaking operation behind us — and not a moment too soon. The Federal Trade Commission’s August workshop on lootboxes appears to have made some serious waves in the industry — within days, the Electronic Software Association (ESA) reports the three console manufacturers are “committing to new platform policies that will require paid loot boxes in games developed for their platforms to disclose information on the relative rarity or probability of obtaining randomized…

New tech is always well-intentioned, but good intentions are no longer good enough. Technology is advancing at an insane rate, often faster than lawmakers and the general public can keep up. To suggest that we limit the progression of technology intentionally, or use some kind of quarantine, would make me seem like a Luddite, and reasonably so. But I do think it’s important that we spend more time thinking about the…

Bluesound wants its wireless hi-fi equipment back — they’re gonna have to fight me for it

Aug08
by Sindy Cator on August 8, 2019 at 3:27 pm

I’ve been trying to perfect my wireless music streaming set-up for years. That’s not an exaggeration, I’m talking literally years.  And, friends, I thought I’d solved it. I thought I’d found the solution to my struggle, but something horrible — nay, bloodcurdling — happened: Bluesound wants the review units of its wireless hi-fi audio equipment back. So, after careful consideration and wise legal counsel, it was concluded there’s only one thing for me to do: fight Bluesound. Please, sir, some context Before we get into the Bluesound gear itself, it’s time to get all David Copperfield and talk about my…
