I have several passions that I would say define the core of my personality: Hawaiian pizza, scatological talk, and reality TV. When I was given the chance to review the Leisure 510 projector from Vankyo, I knew immediately what I would use it for: building the reality TV cinema of my dreams. And by god, it worked. Here’s how I did it. First, let’s start with this speaker Vankyo’s Leisure 510 projector is, for all intents and purposes, a no-frills, excellent projector.  A quick rundown of the numbers:  4000 Lux LED light 1280×768 pixels resolution 3000:1 contrast 300” max screen…

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff.  Although you can probably read a lot quicker than you can listen, sometimes it’s just too much effort to stare at your phone screen to read a long-form article after a hard day at work staring at your computer screen. Maybe you catch yourself drifting off, your mind wanders to the weird corners of your brain, or you’re just bored of the sound of the voice in your head — and of course, you…

Cloudflare’s Magic Transit lets you push your entire IP traffic through its servers

Cloudflare today announced the launch of its latest network security product, called Magic Transit. This service allows organizations to send their entire network traffic through Cloudflare’s secure and performance-optimized network, offering protections against DDoS attacks, while simultaneously boosting speeds. Magic Transit supports any IP protocol or standard, so you could just as easily connect games or email servers to it as you would a standard web server. That’s important because, as we’ve seen in recent years, DDoS attacks have morphed to include other common networked applications, like DNS servers (the Mirai attack of 2016 being perhaps the best example of…

Cryptocurrency scammers conned Australians out of $14.8M in just 7 months

Cryptocurrency investment scams in Australia cost victims a record $14.76 million between January and July this year. That’s according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The commission states that many of these fraudulent operations leverage social media platforms, fake celebrity endorsements, or online trading platforms that are made to look legitimate in an attempt to attract prospective investors. In a statement promoting a scheme seeking to raise awareness about fraudulent activity in the country, ACCC Deputy Chair Delia Rickard urged citizens to learn about modern scams to stay protected. “People need to update their idea of what a scam is…

SEC takes action against financial charlatan who operated a $14M fraudulent ICO

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is taking action against a New York-based individual in an attempt to safeguard investor funds that were raised through an allegedly fraudulent initial coin offering (ICO). The SEC filed a complaint yesterday against “self-described financial guru” Reginald Middleton and two of his companies, Veritaseum LLC and Veritaseum Inc. In the complaint, the SEC is calling for emergency stop action to prevent Middleton from being able to access what remains of the funds he raised in the “VERI Token” ICO. At present, Middleton is in possession of $8 million worth of investor funds –…
