Snap’s new Spectacles capture 3D video and aim for the luxury crowd

When Snap first revealed its Spectacles in 2016, they were something of a mini-phenomenon. Here was a pair of wacky sunglasses sold through wacky vending machines that could record video in a circular format. At the time, some thought pivoting into hardware could be the company’s defense against increasing encroachment from Facebook. Now we know that’s not the case. Despite Snapchat’s waning popularity after Facebook’s properties copied all its best features, the company isn’t totally giving up on Spectacles. Today it announced the Spectacles 3, introducing a second camera for better AR and pivoting to appeal a more luxury crowd.…

Masked ‘TV Head’ serial-pranksters left vintage TVs in front of 60 residences and nobody knows why

About 60 residents in a Virginia neighborhood awoke Sunday morning to find vintage TV sets had been left on their property. Footage obtained from several homeowners’ security cameras show a person wearing a mask in the shape of a TV casually setting the appliances down and walking away. Police believe it to be the work of teenage pranksters. We’ll start with an obvious disclaimer: don’t go sneaking around at night leaving box-shaped objects on people’s property. More than forty-percent of US households have at least one firearm and Virginia is a stand your ground state. If police are correct and…

Another chunk of the 119,756 Bitcoin stolen from cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has been mysteriously moved. Twitter-based transaction monitor @whale_alert signaled the transfer late yesterday, when the hackers’ wallet suddenly transferred just over 30 BTC ($351,000) to a fresh, previously unused Bitcoin address. ⚠ 30.667542 #BTC (351,015 USD) of stolen funds transferred from Bitfinex Hack 2016 to unknown wallet Tx: https://t.co/ipfik2Tpd2 — Whale Alert (@whale_alert) August 12, 2019 In 2016, hackers succeeded in stealing 119,756 BTC from seminal cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex. This subreddit documents the most delightful fuckups on Google Maps

What do a couple of kids pointing guns at an adult, a man about to fall off stairs, a group of people wearing pigeon masks, and a taxi driver pissing himself have in common? These are the type of unusual moments curated by a small Reddit community known as Google Maps Shenanigans. The subreddit, which recently passed the 50,000 subscriber mark, has been documenting some of the most bizarre captures on Street View for nearly two years. “I was reading through the comments of a post where people were wishing for a subreddit about funny things found with Google Maps, and the name r/googlemapsshenanigans was…

A San Francisco startup guide for international entrepreneurs

Aug13

San Francisco is hallowed ground for tech entrepreneurs. Every year thousands of founders travel to the city, set on starting the next unicorn. According to SF Gate, studio apartments in the city rent for an average $2,500 per month. On top of that, businesses face challenges such as retaining top talent, as well as competing with other startups for…
