Project Veritas and ‘whistle-blower’ published bullshit ‘data-leak’ to dox Google employees

Project Veritas, a non-profit conspiracy theory outlet, today dropped the ‘bombshell’ that it’d obtained hundreds of leaked internal documents from a whistle-blower showing Google‘s bias against Conservatives. Unfortunately, as is almost always the case with Project Veritas, the claims are crap. As TNW’s Ravie Lakshmanan pointed out, the documents are probably authentic. I’ve pored over every single one in the document dump on Project Veritas’ website and it’s my opinion that almost all of them appear completely legitimate – the exception being screenshots of a Google employee’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, which I’m guessing were taken by the ‘whistle-blower,’ as…

The iPhone 11 could launch September 10, according to an iOS 13 clue

Shortly after Apple launched iOS developer beta 7 today, sleuths found some interesting tidbits potentially pertaining to the iPhone 11. Specifically, Brazillian site iHelp BR noticed the beta contains an image of the home screen with a calendar date set to Tuesday the 10th – presumably in September. While a random date on a hidden image may not seem like much to go on, it corroborates previous rumors about the iPhone 11’s launch and lines up with previous early-September iPhone launches. As 9to5Mac notes, Apple tends to launch announce iPhones on the second Tuesday or Wednesday of September; a quick search…

Here’s how to find ‘Ignored’ games in your Steam collection

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff. Steam recently rolled out a new option on its store to help sort recommendations. Up to now, the only way to stop seeing a game pop up in your recommendations was to choose the “Ignore” option, which also meant Steam would just assume you weren’t interested in that type of game. Obviously this isn’t ideal — just because I don’t want to see Monster Hunter World keep popping up in my Steam queue doesn’t mean I…

5 ad hacks for apps looking to capitalize on strong retargeting strategies

Aug15

If you’ve developed an app — even if you’re successfully selling it — there’s one statement that’s unquestionably true: you’re letting potential users slip through your fingers. No matter how good your marketing is or how much money you spend on pay-per-click strategy, you’re dealing with a fickle audience. In fact, one fifth of all of your users will leave after using your app once. I know; I’ve seen it myself. But there’s good news. If you’re willing to put in some effort for retargeting, you can pick up some of those people you’re losing. You’ll touch hot leads more…
