Hackers exploit Verge blockchain vulnerabilities to steal over $1.7M — again

Anonymous cryptocurrency Verge can’t seem to catch a break. It appears that hackers have again exploited the vulnerabilities in Verge’s blockchain to steal XVGs. In an attack that lasted a few hours, approximately 35 million XVGs seem to have been stolen — worth above $1.7 million as per the latest Coinmarketcap price. Verge suffered a similar attack last month resulting in the theft of 250,000 XVG. As per ocminer — the Bitcointalk.org user who had pointed out the attack last time as well — it is the same glitch that has been exploited again by the attackers. The attackers were able to mine multiple blocks…

Sony’s 10-inch digital paper tablet is an ultra-expensive Moleskine replacement

Yesterday, Sony announced a 10-inch digital paper tablet, snappily named the DPT-CP1. This is a bit like a normal tablet, except with an electronic-ink screen, and designed primarily for note-taking. With the DPT-CP1 (surely Sony could have given it a better name, lke the “WriteStation,” maybe?) you can draw and doodle to your heart’s content without running out of pages. It has 16GB of internal storage, with 11GB user-accessible. You can also synchronize your work to your phone, with the companion app available for both Android and iOS. If you need to bring your work to a bigger screen, the…

Post Cambridge Analytica, the EU needs to end policy-makers’ preferential treatment of Facebook

Following the Cambridge Analytica affair and the massive leak of 87 million people’s data revealed earlier this year, Facebook is facing unprecedented scrutiny of its business model and especially its use of users’ personal data. These scandals provide political momentum for new initiatives to better regulate Facebook and other tech giants. However, any action to protect digital rights is sure to face opposition from the well-resourced EU lobbying machine that Facebook and other big names from Silicon Valley have built up in Brussels over the last ten years. So far, Facebook has managed to avoid public scrutiny in the EU.…

Study shows the fraught relationship between tech recruiters and hiring managers

May22

HackerRank today published its 2018 Tech Recruiting Report. The paper examines trends and perspectives in the competitive developer recruitment market, and has identified several trends that are guaranteed to raise eyebrows. One trend spotted by HackerRank is that there seems to be endemic relationship issues between recruiters and hiring managers. HackerRank asked how they perceived their relationship with the other party. While 30.5 percent of recruiters said it was “excellent,” only 17.1 percent of hiring managers said the same. That’s a chasm of nearly 13 percentage points. That’s perhaps because both parties have different overall goals. Recruiters are primarily concerned…
