WhatsApp might be working on a ‘real’ Windows app ahead of the Surface Phone

WhatsApp is one of few developers that consistently delivered updates to its Windows Phone app, but a report by Windows Central suggests WhatsApp is actually getting ready to deliver a proper desktop app as well. Cncept art for a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version of WhatsApp showed up on Behance before being promptly removed. It appeared to be anative Windows app with UWP design tenets like acrylic transparency. Furthermore, a description of the project suggested Microsoft and WhatsApp were working closely on the project. Rewinding a bit, WhatsApp does already have an app for the desktop, but it’s basically just a…

I welcome the douchebag that replaces Elon Musk in the never-ending tech hype cycle

The dry heaving started sometime on Tuesday, shortly after Elon Musk took to Twitter to announce Tesla would be laying off nearly 10 percent of its workforce. Or, maybe it was a couple weeks earlier when he took a swipe at the free press for its commentary on the most recent Tesla incident. I can’t recall. Difficult, but necessary Tesla reorg underway. My email to the company has already leaked to media. Here it is unfiltered: pic.twitter.com/4LToWoxScx — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 12, 2018 Retching intensified later when he assured us the cuts weren’t profit-motivated — the company hasn’t been…

Trump’s getting the Cambridge Analytica band back together

Cambridge Analytica may be gone, but its spirit will live on in the 2020 US presidential election. Former senior staff of the now bankrupt business are reportedly working with the Trump 2020 campaign under the guise of a new company. But don’t tell anyone, because apparently it was supposed to be a secret. News broke that Brad Parscale, the campaign manager for president Donald Trump’s upcoming reelection bid in 2020, was working with the company earlier this afternoon after several AP News sources reportedly overhead conversations indicating as much. The new company is called Data Propria. At least four former Cambridge…

Of course there’s a blockchain-based religion

Humans have long sought answers to the fundamental questions of our existence. How did we get here? What is our purpose? Should I buy the dip? For some, the answers lie in churches full of sacred texts. But others place their faith in the house that Satoshi built, and on the blockchain. Matt Liston, former CEO of cryptocurrency company Augur, recently collaborated with artist Avery Singer to found a blockchain-based religion called 0xΩ, pronounced “Zero Ex Omega”. @0xOmega is:1. A consensus network based structure for religious belief and ritual2. A synergistic belief set using consensus processes to form a collective…
