Whether you intend it or not, chances are, headlines grab your attention when they reference the latest actions of some self-made billionaire out of Silicon Valley. Someone reports on their investment choices, or more trivially, their habits, behaviors, or even fashion choices, and your curiosity gets the better of you. You have to click. On the extreme end of this spectrum, people rearrange their lives to emulate famous entrepreneurs. They buy the same brands, strive for productivity in the same ways, and may even quit their jobs for a shot at this ultra-rich lifestyle. On some level, it’s natural for…

Samsung officially revealed its latest wearable, the Galaxy Watch, today at its Unpacked event. Samsung accidentally spilled the beans on the Watch late last month with a store listing. But we learned a bit more about the Watch at this event. For example, the company seems to have placed a large emphasis on practicality and health. It’s also tying its Watch more closely to its Galaxy line, contrasting with the Gear line. The company sang the praises of the battery life. Elina Vives, Samsung’s Senior Director of Marketing, told the Unpacked crowd the Watch can be used “for several days…

Decentralized Wikipedia rival ditches Ethereum to launch on the EOS blockchain

Following botched plans to launch on Ethereum, decentralized encyclopedia Everipedia has announced its operation is going live on the EOS blockchain. Everipedia wants to rival Wikipedia by offering a truly open and censorship-free database of information. Wikipedia, Everipedia developers claim, suffers from too many regulations and “bureaucratic-type overseers” that make it “attractive only to a relatively small portion of potential encyclopedia writers.” There is an inherent connection between the two platforms, too: particularly the presence of Dr. Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, who is Everipedia’s chief information officer (CIO). The hope that Everipedia will benefit from EOS’s supposed decentralized nature – but…

I shit you not! Budding blockchain startup TRON has entered into a strategic partnership with smart toilet supplier Moshroom that culminate in the production of blockchain-powered lavatories. Ok, there’s obviously more to this story than meets the eye. Blockchain in this instance is used to provide infrastructure for micro-payments – to pay for the use of one of these toilets. Moshroom will provide the toilet, Tron provide the blockchain. Joking aside, TRON and Moshroom are addressing some of the most challenging issues for developing socieities. In many developing countries, people do not have easy access to clean and safe places…
